I would like to keep the Author line. I am ambivalent about whether I want to keep the category. I mostly am just interested in removing all references to dates on posts so that it is not readily obvious to new visitors if I go a couple weeks without posting something new; and I don’t want to take a hit with search engines either.

I just fixed my problem! In my root directory, I also deleted the fantistico files (what I used to install WP). Once I did that, and double checked that all other WP stuff was no longer showing up, it let me install.

Gtoi – if you used fantistico, maybe you might find a similar fix (?)

I’m having the same problem… I’m a newbie too. I purchased my site at hostgator. WordPress is not showing as being installed… I thought I had all files deleted from my root directory (I’m not seeing any), I deleted databases in SQL… I haven’t done anything in myphpadmin because I couldn’t figure out what I was doing and didn’t want to screw things up worse. When I try to reinstall wordpress, it says “cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain. Click the browser’s back button to fix reported errors.”

There are no wp_ anything directories showing anywhere that I can see… Ugh!
