Thanks whooami. I can get online, and ftp works fine, so I think the answers are “yes” and “yes.” I don’t use my mac as a webserver. All my localhost sites are at 127.0.0.1, and I have other local sites running.
I thought the hostname might be https://localhost/~username/wordpress
