In reply to: Jetpack – Stats Screwed UpAnd although it seems fixed now, you still can’t display the monthly graph without fiddling (click again after the graph is drawn). It won’t show immediately..
Whoever thought it was funny has screwed up the entire service.
I wish there was a completely standalone stats pack so I could do away with this rubbish altogether.

In reply to: Jetpack – Stats Screwed UpDoesn’t it seem a little unprofessional – or is it just me?
It’s hard to take the whole WordPress thing seriously when someone can do this. It might be funny in the schoolyard, but amongst adults it is just a pain – particularly when you consider the debacle over Stats a few weeks ago.
(And mine doesn’t say “April Fools” when I hover over it).
Time to start trialling some other blogging software!

In reply to: [WordPress.com Stats] [Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Update March 17th or 18thI’ve seen them. They’re all talking about the date – which I can see is wrong – and about the down message saying they were unauthorised, but which also clearly said Stats was down.
I have added my own observation about the number of visits – which only went wrong after the down time yesterday, and the subsequent update.
Yep. That was it.
My host is 1&1, and after they told me how to enable PHP 5 on my server Foliopress worked perfectly first time.
Thanks for replying – if you hadn’t I wouldn’t have pursued the PHP 5 issue at this time (last time I asked them it wasn’t possible to use it).
Thanks for this.
Let me now clarify that my host uses PHP version 4.4.9 so I do not meet the base requirement.
My problem is not related to Foliopress in any way, so everyone else please be aware of this.

In reply to: API KeyThank you, Otto.
Apart from some stuff about already having registered, etc. that got it working.

In reply to: API KeyMikey, my sides are splitting. Now, once we’re through being dead clever and sarcastic, and showing how superior we are, read what I have written.
I have got the key. I downloaded WPStats and activated it. It DID NOT ASK FOR A KEY. I entered this via the plugin editor in the location it asks for.
In case you forgot, I am hosting my own blog on my own space.
When I go to the WPStats page of the plugin page it tells me there was an error with the last API attempt. It says it needs to be associated with a WP account (which it obviously is if I got the key via your previous advice). It says the key is present but didn’t work. It is EXACTLY the key that was tucked away in tiny text at the top of my account page.
No offence, but if you can’t help don’t reply. I really would like a solution, not further confusion.
If the problem is so common, point me to an answer that worked.

In reply to: API KeyOK, I have found the API key in a tiny line of text at the top of my dashboard (you other guys must have one also just by virtue of being able to log in to these forums).
I am trying to use WordPress.com Stats.
In spite of the blurb, it DID NOT ask for an API key – it just told me I needed one.
When I used the plugin editor to hardcode this into the stats.php page exactly where it asks you to, the ‘missing API key’ banner disappeared.
But when I try to access WordPress stats it says ‘Error from last API attempt missing API key’ and underneath ‘plugin

is not working because it needs a WP.com account… An API key is present in the source code but it did not work.
It is cut-and-pasted and it is exactly right.
So what now???
