When I try to access permalink settings I get HTTP 500 ‘The website cannot display the page’ and ‘Most likely cause: the website is under maintenance or has a programming error.

The numbers have gone now – I was only editing the title of the page but not the slug. Thanks for that Andrea

Theme horse eventually answered my post.

I was on the right track above but had to cut a bit more code

(Specifically just in case anyone needs to know <a href="' . get_permalink() . '" title="'.the_title('','',false).'"> and </a> a few lines below.)

How would I do that? I mean do I put it in the functions file in my child theme and, if so, where exactly? Why not ideal?
Sorry for all the questions, I really want to learn but know very little at the moment

Clean retina is a free theme (unlike clean retina pro). Unless I’m mistaken and you’re saying that this forum doesn’t support commercial websites (though I have been helped here before).

I have contacted the clean retina (free) support but have not got an answer. There’s not much traffic there to be honest

If it’s still ok I would appreciate your input as to what exactly to do?

Not sure how but the parent theme is now coming through on the child theme on my laptop. I just need to redo any customisation now. Brilliant!

Yes, have done that now alchymyth – it looks slightly different to your browser, it hasn’t got the header I have been trying out

Ok, I went to internet options and deleted browsing history (right?) and activated another theme, then activated my child theme again – but it still looks exactly the same as above screenshot.

I did this yesterday. Should I try again as I have made changes to the website? (Bit clueless)

It is working on my husband’s pc but not on my laptop. This is what it looks like on my laptop. (Hope this works – I have just had to go off and learn how to take and post a screenshot)

Ok, should I remove customisation and start again? I thought it would at least take the bits of the parent theme that I haven’t changed
