In the event that anyone else runs into this problem. All that was required was to enclose the short code in [raw]…[/raw] tags, and then the template loaded appropriately.

In the alternative…could I create a blank template page, that has none of the normal elements of my theme, and simply use that blank template for the page that contains the database? It wouldn’t be ideal aesthetically, but I’m thinking there couldn’t be any interference with the theme, right?

This was a CSS issue, not a plugin problem… got it sorted.
