Go to appearance-> widgets and then on the top right should be a box titled “Header.” Expand the drop down and remove search and metadata.

You have to create a new page with the template as “Landing Page.” and hit save. Any page with the template Landing Page will have the slider if you enable it.

Then go to the appearance settings and change it to a static page and point it to the new landing page you created.
