In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] Filtering by post_mime_type and pre_get_postsActually, that’s fine. I just wanted to know if Relevanssi somehow would not -allow- post_format in $query->set, as it currently seems to do with post_mime_type. That tells me what direction to go down.
Thanks again.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] Filtering by post_mime_type and pre_get_postsWe’re looking into other options for the future. But for whatever reason, we’ve actually been getting page results under 2 seconds so we’re happy to keep doing what we’re doing for a while. Big thanks to you. ??
I can ask in another topic if you like, but my follow-up question: Does Relevanssi also ignore “post_format”? That is another addition we’d like to make. If so, can you add that capability to Relevanssi at some point?
Best.

In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] Filtering by post_mime_type and pre_get_postsAlso, to be fair, I’m not sure how the added clause will impact performance. As you know, a lot of query optimisation happens under the hood. I’m just assuming that a cleaner ‘looking’ SQL expression will yield a faster result–which may not be true. I’m just planning ahead simple we have over 400,000 records. Thanks again.

In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] Filtering by post_mime_type and pre_get_postsThanks. For some context, we have a library of thousands of documents, JPGs, DOCS, PDFs, XLS, etc., all with very similar keywords. It is essential that people be able obtain subsets by mime type.
That said, is it possible to pass a variable from my ‘master’ search function -into- a ‘relevanssi_where’ function rather than depend on the $REQUEST? I tried using global variables and they don’t seem to work.Got it. It’s not super important to us since these numbers are not routinely updated. However, I hope you’ll consider this a feature request for a future version. Cheers.
At the risk of breaking a tender moment. ??
- Is there an easy way to determine how much that code snippet will impact (slow down) execution?
- In the Debugging tab… I’m sorry to be “that guy” but where the heading reads “How does the post look like in the database?” It would be more natural in English to say “What does the post look like in the database?” (Sorry, but your program is so meticulous I figured you would want to know even tiny details like that. We would. Best.)
First… I am -so- sorry for putting you through all this just to learn something like this. However, if it’s possible for ‘Free’ users to make requests, I would ask that this be a checkbox in the admin.
Perhaps we’re different from most users. Our site is a library. The site in question has thousands of images that we use/re-use all over the place. The images are either ‘free-standing’ or used in posts, but we generally don’t upload an image unless it is considered ‘public’. That is why I -assumed- that a post parent was irrelevant. (little joke there.) ??
For us to track which images have been used in Draft posts and which have not would be impossible.
If there is an easy way for our editors to mark the few attachments we -do- wish to keep private as “private” that would be good. I’m sure I can figure a scheme, but if you have a built-in Relevanssi function, other than the Exclude List, I’d appreciate it.
Thanks again. PS…. FWIW, the reason we use the Free version is that we’re a non-profit. We actually operate about a dozen related sites–but it’s not using WordPress MultiSite–they’re all on separate accounts. We could afford Relevanssi for -one- site but never all of them. So we decided to go ‘Free’ rather than have to maintain different versions of code. If there was a way to get a ‘bulk’ license we would very much like to know about it. Most vendors don’t seem interested in that, I assume being concerned about piracy, but if that were ever an option, please shoot me an email.
FWIW, Relevanssi was a gamechanger for us and you’ve done the world some real good by offering the Free version. Seriously.
…and… when I publish the draft post (the parent of 10557), 10557 is now visible.
So, I guess I feel stupid. But… shouldn’t Relevanssi have returned 10557 whether the parent was a draft or not?
And fwiw, when I go into the database, the post_status column is “inherit”
But the post parent (10383) is “draft”. Shouldn’t Relevanssi return the attachment whether the parent is a draft or not?
string(31) “post status for 10557 is: draft”
It echos “post not ok!”
…and then correctly lists all four search results… including 10557
I believe you. However, I have switched themes to a default WordPress theme (eg. 2017 and 2023) and they also misbehave. So it’s not my theme.
Do you have any further suggestions on how to troubleshoot? Could it be FileBird? Is there a way to test for plug-ins other than the brute force approach?
Oooh, aaaaahhh. ?? (I never noticed that before.)
It returns 4 results–which is 100% correct.
The following search returns 3 items. 1 is a ‘Link’ and 2 are media attachments. The one I keep asking about is -missing- (10557).
You searched for ray bishop – Sea-Tac Airport Noise And Pollution (seatacnoise.info)
However, if I go into the Admin (Relevanssi is enabled for admin search) I get ONE result… 10557.
Starting to drive me a little nuts–mainly because I am certain there are other occurrences like this.
Have you heard of any incompatibilities with FileBird or is that not a likely possibility?
Does this give you what you need?
