In reply to: Update to 4.01 not availableA scan is also showing that “This WordPress core file has been modified and differs from the original file distributed with this version of WordPress.”
The difference is the addition of the following line:
$wp_local_package = ‘en_US’;
this is also a commonality between these two sites.

In reply to: Update to 4.01 not availableSam,
I take that back I did another comparison of plugins and I did find a plugin that is common in the two sites that did not update and not loaded on any of the sites that did update. The plugin is called Special Recent Posts FREE edition 2.0.4

In reply to: Update to 4.01 not availableHi Sam,
Not that I can see. I compared themes and they are different. There are some similar plugins but they are also found on the other sites that updated. All use the same language. I did note that the time on both sites was not set to my location and I thought I was on to something but I found a couple of the sites that did update weren’t set to the proper time as well.
Anything else you would advise I should check in terms of similarities?

In reply to: Update to 4.01 not availableJustin,
Under dashboard updates it shows the last check I did (11:14am). Each time it just indicates there are no updates available even though About WordPress still shows 4.0.
If I do a wordfence scan I also get notified that I’m out of date. It gives me a “fix to click here for update” but I get the same thing.
would it make sense to download a cacheing plugin inorder to clear the current cache and try again or would that potentially make the situation worse?
Steve

In reply to: Update to 4.01 not availableMika,
I don’t believe so. Four of these sites are hosted at the same host. I’m not using any cache plugins (like W3) on any of them either. I’m on with my host now and they are looking at it as well.
There first level of support was not able to determine what the issue was. At this point they are escalating to level 2 support to update the site.

In reply to: Update to 4.01 not availableThanks Tim.
Both of these two sites are new so I don’t think they updated themselves but I never did anything to remove that function.
Is setting up the FTP credentials something I would do through my host service provider?
thanks again for the help!
Actually I just got in on:
$wp_local_package = ‘en_US’;
line 37 of wp-includes/version.php

In reply to: [BetterOptin] RUN AWAY! Unless you like being held hostage RUN AWAY!Julien,
Yes, I have deactivated and deleted many plugins over the past several years. However, when selecting “deactivate” for this plugin all I got was a white screen. I was only able to delete it after Bluehost support deactivated from their end.
The documentation for the plug-in talks about some “uninstallation” but it’s unclear where the selections referred to are located. After searching all available menus within the plugin I was unable to locate anything that looked like the documentation.
With regard to the user database I disagree that it’s easy. Yes, I was able to see the “Role” Betteroptin however when selecting “change” the database did not sort. I even downloaded and installed another plugin to export users and meta tags and was still unable to locate the two subscribers I allegedly had as a result of the plugin.
It’s a nice looking plugin and I was excited that it converted! Up to the point I was unable to locate the subscribers I was planning to test it and upgrade to integrate with MailChimp. Unfortunately, the experience left me dissatisfied and frustrated, especially when I was unable to shut the plugin off.
Thanks for the response and I especially appreciate the developer taking quick action to resolve the user locate feature. Perhaps, I’ll give it another try in the future.

In reply to: WordPress 4.0 Issues – Tried All Suggested SolutionsHello,
I am having and /or had the same issues you are having. See my thread here
Bluehost was able to restore my image library and theme view last night but now I’ve lost the ability to edit the widget area.

In reply to: WP 4.0 Missing ADMIN elementsJustina thanks for the response. I’m sorry you are having a similar issue but it’s good information to see that it’s not something specific to the host. I was starting to wonder about that.

In reply to: WP 4.0 Missing ADMIN elementsSo I spoke with support at bluehost last night. After 1hour on the phone they seemed to have resolved the problem. He said they “reset the core file”(?) Anyway, I was able to see themes and images.
I got up this morning. Published a post and went to the “widgets” area to try to get some functionality back (I have at this point abandoned my previous theme) and widgets is now unresponsive. Also the customize area under appearance and the ability to reply to comments.
To me it seems like the functionality issues are related when they happen. Yesterday it was missing images in the theme area and in the library. Today it’s functionality in the widgets and customize area.
I have put in another ticket with blue host support.

In reply to: WP 4.0 Missing ADMIN elementsIs deactivating a plug-in sufficient to see if it is interfering or should I actually delete them?

In reply to: WP 4.0 Missing ADMIN elementsvoldemortensen – Yes, I neglected to state that we did try a restore from the last time it was working and it resolved a few of the issues but we were still seeing the issue with the slider. My domain is https://outsidehealthandfitness.com
janet4now –
I just tried it again. Currently I have no plugins running and I switched to twenty ten. (also tried twenty fourteen). The issues persist. My domain is https://outsidehealthandfitness.com

In reply to: WP 4.0 Missing ADMIN elementsI forgot to mention that I have two sites hosted at Bluehost. Both are running different themes and plugins and both are experiencing the same issue. I’ve tried running the backend of both from multiple machines and connections to the internet.
