Just to follow up and close this thread:

I contacted the theme developer. He had received a similar report before but hasn’t updated the code yet. He did give me instructions for editing the functions.php file while corrected the problem I was having.

All’s good now. Thank you all for your insight and assistance.

So deactivating all the plugins and changing to the default Twenty Sixteen WordPress theme seemed to remedy the problem. At least I was able to create the page I wanted and edited it while in that theme.

If nothing else, I can swap themes when I want to edit, but is there a less cumbersome way to circumvent whatever the problem was in the future?

No, that’s the only thing I changed other than editing some of the text on a couple pages and resizing an image. I don’t recall making any changes to the theme (Inkblot).

I’m running WP 4.5.1. I currently have all plugins deactivated and have Twenty Sixteen activated.
