Yes, just add that style to your child theme’s style.css file. You shouldn’t need to mess with slider.css.php at all. If you find that you don’t have enough classes to work with you could always add a wrapper around the header region in your child theme’s header.php file.

Me, too! I’m going to go hunt down this very basic functionality from another theme and copy it in.

Titan developers: is the free Titan theme basically done? Very basic functionality is missing in this theme, no customizable menus, no support for header images. (I had to go rip the code out of twentyeleven and copy it in)

I get that you want people to pay for the premium version, but at this point this theme lags far behind other modern free themes, and is basically cripple ware. Some attention is needed.

I wish I had not started out using Titan as the backbone for this project.

Are you sure you don’t just have a CSS issue with your menu? Look at the source and make sure it’s really not there and not just hidden.

I think I originally set mine up with a conditional statement like the one in that link, works fine.

Bumping this up, because I very much wish this plugin were responsive. Will this ever be a feature?

D’oh! Figured it out. I’m leaving this hear for others who may suffer from the same density.

To use uploaded images you have to first have at least two images uploaded through appearance —-> Header. Then the slideshow option will appear.

I know this should seem obvious but maybe add a note to your faq or installation instructions?

No, I decided to disable Mingle and go another way. (Using Theme my Login) Too bad, it has some other functionality that I like. Strange that Mingle Forum and Mingle can’t work together.

Sorry, I had no idea it was so simple. Didn’t occur to me to look there, I guess it’s not terribly intuitive.

Benjiw: Wasn’t working for me either. I am so tired of waiting for an update to this plugin, I know my client is too. No updates to the twitter profile since June 12th, nothing new at the website. Home page link on WordPress is broken.

Anyone have a good recommendation for another similar plugin?

I know I have defended Geekery (and would continue to do so) earlier in this thread, but I do have to say that there are some things WordPress could stand to improve. For example, the 2.8 upgrade is causing some serious widespread damage and there are some pretty simple fixes for some of the common problems, but the official blog on this site has said not a word about this. People are complaining on these forums, over and over again, the same issues with their admin/editor breaking and with no centralized place to go for an explanation they’ll just keep posting new threads.

I’m hanging out with an old version on my site for now until the dust settles, and fixing the bugs for my client who upgraded. Drupal has a smaller community but their “issues” system is easier for me to navigate when I have a support problem.

That having been said, some basic knowledge of file systems and editing files (even if it’s just copying and pasting from instructions) is necessary if you’re going to mess around with self hosted solutions.

For some reason this thread is not showing up as a sticky. Someone should fix that as many, many people are having problems.

Here’s a link to instructions, for how to fix this mess:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/279132?replies=31

It’s a sticky, but for some reason I still had to search for it? Doesn’t show up at the top of the forum as it should.

Any moderator around that can unbury the post? It’s very important.

Basically, clear your browser cache and overwrite your wp-admin and wp-include folders with copies from a fresh download. If that doesn’t work there are further instructions in the sticky.

    Well, easy is relative.

It’s a whole lot easier than the platform I used to use, but that one was appropriately titled “Geeklog.”

If you don’t want to understand the guts of it at all, blogger is probably better for you. (Or just WordPress.com) Eventually, however, I think most serious bloggers (unless they have a whole IT Staff and don’t have to care) need to at least start to understand How It All Works. Eventually you’ll understand what you are doing when you look at the code.

Plus, geekiness is an economically beneficial trait. I say, go all in on geeky and get to know it a little bit better. Learn to stop worrying and love linux-apache-mysql-php. (Or at least buy a good book on it.)

Alternatively, head over to e-lance and find yourself someone who can fix all of your problems for a hundred bucks or so.

That said, I could have written your post a year or two ago. (Though not about WordPress) Stick with it and eventually you’ll feel less frustrated.

Well, I’ve given up on this idea for now. I need to get my site up and running. What appeared to be happening was not only that the top level category was showing, but the top level category for *the first post* which might not be at all related to the category I’m browsing.

For example: I have a post about Veteran’s Day and schools, it is placed in both the “celebrate” category, and the “schools” category which is a child of “learn.” Since it was the most recent post in the “learn” category, browsing “learn” results in a list of the last 20 posts in the celebrate category.

For now (and for others trying to do this) I am using Sobek’s Posts in Category plugin:

    https://clockworkblogger.com/sobeks-post-in-category-plugin/

Which works great but requires that I build a page for each category that I would like to display, it can’t detect which category I’m browsing and display those posts – the category has to be coded in.

What I would like to have is a nice clean plug in or easy hack that would call the exact category I am currently browsing (whatever it is, without having to create a page for each one and a menu leading to those pages) and display a list of only those posts.

In the process of researching this I’ve found many other posts by people going around and around this same issue and not getting anywhere. I believe this would be a very useful plugin if anyone wants to take it on.
