I am having the same problem. I have set the maximum size at 400x300px, but the images load at twice that size.

Yes, I cannot get it to crop either. However, if you do something to the image like flip it (reverse it) or turn it clockwise or counterclockwise and then crop it, it does crop. It will also crop if you turn the image clockwise, then turn it back first. This is version 3.0.1.
