  • Fine. Have edited. Just wanted to point how annoying that is. It’s almost a year or so of debating this issue and people who are not users have decided this is the way to go. And there is no listening to real users

The amazing developers, whose sole purpose is to clean up the UI and who, moreover, work for free (anyone can contribute to WordPress, they are always saying), have again returned to the clunky design from 6.3.

It’s a pity that we now need another plugin for a simple thing such as getting links to open in a new tab. Such a simple thing yet for some reason, the contributors-that-be will not acquiesce to input from actual users.

@vascolou that’s very true. I thought I was the only person bothered by this. It’s not too big a deal, but now I need 5 clicks where previously I needed about 2 if I am not mistaken. That adds up for people who, like me, spent their lives working in WordPress. In fact, by default, all links should open in new tabs. It wouldn’t make sense close your own page as people click on a link that’s on it. It’s better to have people directed into a new tab.

Since I am here and seeing I love complaining, there was also an “i” at the top of the page in previous versions of WordPress. That has since been hidden but it was one of the most useful features for showing the header structure of a web page. That’s something that’s important (or not) for SEO. Anyway, let me get over to github as suggested by the other poster

Okay, I have just updated to AMP 2.4.2 and it appears everything is now working as it should. So, maybe the issue was with 2.4.0 and 2.4.1. Or maybe the changes on my site resolved the issue after all. In any case, thank you!

Thank you for you response. The issue is indeed strange. But it’s hardly unique. There are tens of similar reports right here on this forum. In any case, since we last spoke, I have since done a complete reset of my site. Not because of that issue alone, but because the site was generally broken down. I reinstalled WordPress and then I added back all my content from Yandex and Google cache. The first thing that I did after reinstalling WordPress was to get back the AMP plugin. Lo and behold, the problem remained even on a fresh install! I had to rollback to the earlier version of AMP to get onboarding and Settings to work. My thinkink is, could the issue be to do with my host? Or maybe with my PHP? I am on PHP 7.4. Could it be to do with settings in cPanel. The reset solved all of my site’s issues save for the AMP issue. But that’s fine because everything is working well on the earlier version.

Thank you anyway. I will just keep using version 2.3.0. As mentioned earlier on, the issue does not have anything to do with a plugin. I encountered the issue before installing any plugin other than AMP. It definitely has nothing to do with Ad Inserter which I installed only now after writing you my first message. Will keep investigating to try and decode it in any case.

Thanks for the response. Below is the id for the scan as advised. Anyway, everything is working fine using the earlier version of AMP. I have read probably a hundred similar posts here and can almost predict that you will check and say you cant replicate the issue (is there are smiley icon here). And it’s not an issue with plugins because I tested with every plugin removed. That didn’t work. But there was something after 4.0 that caused the issue.

Hi Brian. I use this plugin. Thanks in advance

Surely, this is something that you could have mentioned even in your docs, that PHP version 7.4 is required. I just spend a couple of days trying to find what was the issue with the failure to import demo content.

That’s good to hear. Hey, here is another idea; could the update also include color options for the back to top button. At the moments it’s so white it’s virtually invisible. I have only just noticed it. Didn’t even know it was there all along. So, it it could be light grey or some other color, that would be great.

cool. thanks. The code was exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks. Another thing that I have noticed is that the top padding for H2 headers is a bit too much. There is too much space between paragraphs as a result. The default appears to be 2em. Now, it’s possible to change that in Typography—->Top Margin in ems for H2. However, I have notice that you inverted the selections. The “Bottom Margin in ems for H2” option is the one that actually changes the Top margin. The reverse is true. In any case, the default probably should not be that big because the spaces between paragraphs become just too big.

Greetings once again. Sorry to resuscitate this one so soon. Just wanted to say everything on the frontend is now working as it should. My new challenge is with the backend. When writing an article in the WordPress Dashboard, all the links are the same color as the text. It’s the same issue that was present with the frontend. I wonder if it can easily be solved? Here, the potential impact is not so drastic. I mean, I can live with it. But I do like to keep track of the internal and external links that I have added while writing an article. Thanks in advance and again, sorry for resuscitating this one.

Thanks a lot. Cool. The update works. Now the site looks great. In fact, having the links set to a blue color should probably be the default. Most people are used to this. Again, thanks. It’s a relief, the issue was bugging me, which is probably very strange..
