It’s happening to me also, disabling nextgen-gallery plugin, tinymce buttons wysiwyg interface get back working, flawless.

I’ve noticed also the two settings pages are empty from admin backend: ngg_display_settings, ngg_other_options

Just let editing templates by the admin interface could be the same securiti “hole” Because internal user attacker could write a custom $wpdb function to get things done…

If I try to open directly /wp-admin/index.php with browser’s cookies disabled, i could get redirected to login page.

But cookied I can’t be redirected to dashboard.
Reading links you submitted, seems could be a problem with cookies lenght.

If I load before the post editing page, and then I click on “Dashboard” wp-admin/index.php is shown.

i think you only need to make .htaccess writable by webserver and redo option->permalinks
