I have also tried trimming everything after and including the “?” but it doesn’t seem to help.

Hi, just created a new test post and tried (a) pasting in soundcloud link (embed failed), then (b) explicitly choosing Soundcloud block in editor and pasting URL into the textbox (embed failed). So from where I sit it’s still failing.

    WP 6.2.2, twenty-fourteen-child theme.

Update: tried the alt method of grabbing the Embed raw html from Soundcloud and pasting into a Custom HTML block in the editor. This works, so we are back in business and can continue publishing our radio shows online. So the revised problem description is that automated embed of Soundcloud is not working — pasting the Sc URL into the editor stopped working quite a while ago, and entering it into an Embed Soundcloud block has now stopped working also, but inserting a Custom HTML block and using Sc’s embed HTML code still works.

It’s a little clunky and I wish the easy methods still worked, but we can live with this until if (if ever) gets fixed.

Thanks for the illuminating comment! I have no idea why Gutenberg is installed and enabled, I inherited this nightmare from someone else… the site is quite old, like over 10 years, so it may be baggage from long ago. I can try disabling it and see what happens, I guess. Thanks for the bread crumb…

[a few minutes later] thanks VERY MUCH for that breadcrumb. disabling Gutenberg solves the problem.

I want to thank everyone who gave some advice.

Currently in the process of bailing on GoDaddy, gonna give Stablepoint a try (so far they are very responsive). Have done some cleaning up, installed Wordfence. Still suffering from lockout but pretty sure this is due to limit login retries reloaded, which GoDaddy installs in a write-protected dir tree so I can’t disable it (grrr). Looking forward to a new hosting relationship.

Many thanks everyone! very nice friendly helpful community.

Very helpful thanks. How much does BitFire PRO license cost? I don’t see any prices on its web page.

if you think that a modern mysql will be able to read the db files from 2010 or 2011, then it’s worth a try. my plan is

    1) transfer (ftp or scp) the whole enchilada from the ancient server to a local host
    2) get a modern mysql to read the db files
    3) install a modern wp and point it at the appropriate databases
    4) get it all set up and working again on the local host, then
    5) extract the blogs of interest to wp export files, then
    6) import those into a new hosting service…

it’s not a trivial undertaking. do you think anyone would be interested in a diary or journal about the process, or is it a very rare case (trying to revive a long-defunct legacy blog for historical interest)?
