Problem solved. There was a MYSQL file in /tmp which could not be removed, #sql_33b_0.MYD. It was a NULL file. After deletion the category listing reappeared.

Regarding your theme question. I can do that as a side project but our Website is built on Pagelines. I would need a solution for that environment. At this point I am willing to implement a hack if necessary. Can you suggest a shortcode or a modification to the core files as a temporary solution? Thanks.

The theme is Pagelines Framework version 2.4.5 (latest). I have tried deactivating all plugs individually but no luck.

I installed and activated the plugin but I cannot pass $_SESSION variables yet. Is there anything else required to initiate the add_action function?
