I know I will have to make a child theme, but can I just use a copy of the current one in the child theme and just make the changes to that?

Sorry for the typo, it should be backgrounds, not backgrouns. Also I forgot I need to know where to change the links in menu at all stages.

Ok I figured out that I need to do something with the exclude parameter. But how is this done? where does the code go? Is it found in the header template? I am using the name and date permalink? do I temporarily put it on the default one so I know the number to put in the exclude parameter?

I figured it out samuel, but i cannot get my ad serving script to work where the ad was. it makes the template all a mess. but I have a single ad in place but was hoping to have more than one.
