First step when ever you have a problem is to check your webserver’s error logs to see what errors are being reported. Please take a second and copy and paste what you see in there.

You can switch between those 10 blogs and their admins with that one interface.

Haven’t tried this yet as we’re waiting until 3.0.x but you need to add in the –relocate flag:

A very strong suggestion to modify whatever plugin you use to only index or list blogs that have ‘x’ number of posts or have a life span of over a week or so. Else you get lots of “Hello World!”‘s in there and spammers you haven’t caught yet.

You need to check to see what’s in your webserver’s error logs. The error that you received even suggests doing so:

I seem to recall most of the time people getting that error from either mod_rewrite not being active for this site/account or the install has been installed as an addon domain instead of being the main domain. The specific error would be helpful.

Do we not have to do the htacess fix then?

Five bucks says you;re using CPanel. Log out of CPanel, delete the .htaccess file via ftp and try again. Do *NOT* log in to CPanel at any time during this process.

Forgive me for no copy and paste but I;m not feeling well. Search for previous submains. It’s a three line fix in htaccess as well as marking the url as being unusable in the Site -> options page/

Someone’s going to have to provide the link from the old mu forums as I can;t copy and paste today but you need to be running at least version 1.5 of lighttpd which is not the one that normally comes down and gets installed when you do a apt-get. The flash file uploader will not work on wp/wpmu with version 1.4.

At least last time I knew. There’s even code within wp/wpmu saying so I believe.
