  • Yes you can…it’s very easy. You will need AdvancedAds Pro and the Selling Plugin…plus WooCommerce on WP.

@adamdunnage – I 100% understand. Please know it is not my intent to cause stress to anyone there and ask questions nobody can answer.

I thought (maybe incorrectly) that I was posting a topic to the community in hopes of another user who had success would respond. If not, is there another (user centric) forum I should be posting to that you are aware of?

I did post a message to the Ad Manager community and received the same response I received from you which was to read the documentation.

I’m not frustrated, just on a quest to solve this pesky little issue of using Ad Manager to deliver ads to our Web Stories, so that, we can generate revenue for both us and Google.

Let me know if there is another place I can/should be posting my questions.

    Sincerely,

    Terry

@adamdunnage thank you for your reply.

Can you answer me one question about the plugin that may clear everything up.

When I select Ad Manager as the Monetization method, the plugin sets the field to /########/WS where ######## = my Ad Manager Account #.

Does the WS at the end need to refer to the ‘Code’ field in Ad Manager that is specified in the Inventory Ad Unit Settings?

The plugin documentation is either absent or confusing on this.

In the example below the field it shows:

    Example: /123456789/a4a/amp_story_dfp_example

However, in the field that the plugin fills, the field simply has /WS

How does that field in the plugin correlate to the Ad Manager Inventory Ad Unit?

In the plugin example what/where does the /a4a/ reference and what/where does the /amp_story_dfp_example point to in Ad Manager?

I think that if I can solve this, I’m golden.

    Thanks,

    Terry

@swissspidy absolutely…and thank you for asking.

We use the 1st page as our cover and will share page(s) in our emails, website, and socials. The cover that is used for the OG Social media is great, but it’s not as visually arresting (words taken from Alicia Hallett-Chan of Forbes)…in my opinion.

We also will take a page from the WS and simply post that image on socials to provide a visual update of a game.

For example, see pages 11, 13 from this story: https://hornsillustrated.com/web-stories/texas-vs-oklahoma-updates-during-game/

Page 19 from this story: https://hornsillustrated.com/web-stories/updates-during-texas-vs-tcu/

For our fans on social media and our email broadcasts. Another example is FB. See how we use it here: https://www.facebook.com/hornsillustrated/posts/10160184869551388

    …and here https://www.facebook.com/hornsillustrated/posts/10160171668261388

Our reach and engagement are productive.

We also would like to repurpose the covers (aka 1st pages or any page) to create a collage stories. I thing of each page as a new canvas to paint.

I hope this helps. If you would like me to put together something more concrete let me and I can create a Google Slide that I can share with you.

    @swissspidy Thank you.

    Two Requests:

1.) Ability to take a snapshot of the first page, any page, or all pages and save as a .jpg. Here are three examples of our covers: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmWUVy1Q

Currently, we just do a screen grab and crop the image, but thought it sure would be awesome to capture the page with a click of a button. Maybe put the option under the menu on the 3 Dot displayed on the Dashboard for each story, or maybe put it on the Preview page and someone could select the snapshot based on the device.

2.) It sure would be great to know when looking at the WS Dashboard how stories are doing, have done, or to sort stories based on how much traffic or their CTR. I realize this is all available in Analytics which we use, but to get it takes serious mining.

We are always in a guessing game as to what resonates with our audience. To have ‘something’ that tells us, yes this page or story did better or had these results would be awesome.

This may be out of the scope of the tool since there are two separate systems (WS and Analytics) but thought I would ask.

Pascal, thank you and your team for all the hard work you put in for this plugin. It really is an excellent tool that has created a massive positive impact for us.

@luckynasan Thank you. I did update the plugin and works great. I ran the WS URL through the AMP Validator and got a ‘Pass’.

    Thank you.

@luckynasan Ah, I see. I dove into the empy CTA-image and in fact remember several times removing the image for a couple reasons.

1.) it looked like the image was simply the background image that I used on the page
2.) Not fully knowing what image should go there, I thought it was looking for an icon of sorts like the link icon that is the default.

To correct, should I simply add an image to the CTA-image, and what are the specs for that CTA-image.

@luckynasan – thank you so much for this. I am so glad I asked.

So, what did I do incorrectly to cause the error? I will certainly dive in and make sure to not to do this in the future.

Can you explain (or point me in the right direction) about the empty CTA image page attachment? I understand CTA, Image, and Page Attachment, but how can I identify when I have missed it on our stories?

@shetheliving – thank you for taking a look.

Quick question…clearly I need a new theme. However, how will I know that any new theme I implement will be compatible with the plugin?

Is there any ‘compatible’ requirements I should look for? I see themes that say WooCommerce compatible. Is there a way to tell/know without trying 12 themes to find the one that works with the plugin?

Thank you @shetheliving…I have submitted the form with all the data.

@jess2716 – you ask a very important and interesting question. Google provides a wealth of data to help you optimize your stories.

    1. As @luckynasan mentioned about the GA Events. You can also see how visitors moved through your story. Ideally, we want them to start and complete the entire story, but this is not the case. Knowing which page(s) the visitors drop off is important so you can work on improving the engagement and getting visitors to stay longer.

You can see this in GA also, by clicking on an Event Category > then Event Labels which shows all the pages in your story. They are actually numbers 0,1,2,3,4, etc…

Another really great place to see amazing data is Google Search Console under Discover menu option on the right.

This will open a whole new world. You’ll see the power of Google’s AI in placing your content in front of a likely audience.

    Hope this helps.

    @luckynasan – thank you.

I will say this…without having changed anything, after about a week of having the update installed, it started working. Wild, can’t explain it, but happy to be able to create stories again.

    You can close this out.

@swissspidy thank you for your input.

I’m a bit confused. How does/can the loading of the Web Stories Dashboard even interact with a theme? Or, does it (web stories) have nothing to do with any themes when loading or working with WP?

If web stories never interacts with a theme, then I would deduct that the theme is doing something to WP even when only the WP admin panel is loaded.

    (@terrymiddleton)

@luckynasan – I just realized something that may help solve this and help others.

    I can’t believe I forgot this…

In the last update 1.4, I had a similar problem in not being able to see the stories, but was able to in incognito.

I discovered that when I switched my sites theme to way 2021, everything with the plugin worked perfectly which led me to the conclusion that the real culprit was my theme.

I have not solved the problem and don’t fully understand how the plugin interacts with a theme to even try to figure it out.

Maybe you might now how the plugin interacts with a theme or can point me in the right direction to research how it does. Can you help?

When the plugin get’s loaded, how does the theme affect the plugin and visa versa?

    (@terrymiddleton)

@luckynasan also, did you see my sitehealth info I sent via the form?

Since I am not able to create any new stories after the plugin update in my normal browser, is there any problem if I create them in the incognito mode? Just check as I had a couple stories in the works I was trying to launch.

    Let me know,

    Terry
