In reply to: [Network Privacy] [Plugin: Network Privacy] All or Nothing AccessFound a work-around on my own. I just installed “WP-Members” and after doing a little tweaking it works as advertised.
I only wanted it to work on one of my sites so I installed it in the Network Admin area but did NOT enable it there. Instead I navigated to the plugins area of one of the blogs on my Multi-installation version of WordPress and enable it that way.
Got any questions about my solution just respond here. Hope to help others as well.

In reply to: [Network Privacy] [Plugin: Network Privacy] All or Nothing AccessI’m having this same problem. I too have domain mapping enabled. I am currently running WordPress 3.5.
I tried both the “Network Privacy” (version 0.1.4) plugin and the “More Privacy Options” (version 3.2.1.5) plugin. I have had a similar experience with both of those so the problem that Ken and I are both having is related to the way both of these plugins have to ‘do their thing’.
Ken, have you (or anyone else) found a way around this issue? … thanks.
Appreciate the post lernerconsult. However, if I have both of the below options available to me, is there any advantage of one over the other?
1) create a subdomain and point a CNAME record.
2) use Parked Domains (point to /public_html)I have a Reseller Account with HostGator (and a WHM panel) so I am guessing that’s why I can do a little more configuring than basic shared hosting accounts.
I’m using the Parked Domain technique because it’s the one that worked for me when I originally set this up two years ago. But I’ve been curious about the other option, theorizing that there might be some sort of benefit in managing server space or something else I haven’t thought of by creating a subdomain and pointing a CNAME record to it.

In reply to: WP.com export to WP.org importI recommend to use Xcloner plugin.
It makes backup of wordpress website, and can be used to move entire website. It backups Database and files into a archive.I checked out the site and read over the “About XCloner” however it doesn’t look like it would help me with my particular WP.com issue. Please correct me if I am wrong and I will look into it further.
First look would suggest that I would have to have XCloner installed on both the outgoing and the incoming backup. And since I can not install ‘any’ plugins at WP.com then this wouldn’t help me.
Thanks for the otherwise nice suggestion however ??

In reply to: WP.com export to WP.org importNever mind. Perhaps I’m working too hard.
I exported that third file again and it worked this time (thought it did generate a couple of “Menu item skipped due to missing menu slug” errors.
There 211 posts that are now present at my new blog which means those two errors caused two posts to fail in being brought over. I’ll track those down manually and just copy and past them over; completely acceptable ??
I’m happy.

In reply to: subdomain mapping for multisiteIn case anyone else runs across this problem I might be able to offer some tips. I did this using WordPress 3.1.1
I had a whale of a time getting it to work but I now have https://gottmilk.igottcha.com/ mapped to https://gottmilk.g0tt.info/ , it’s working and it’s configured with the MU Domain Mapping plugin.
Cheers!
P.S. Since Andrea_r is in this thread also (she’s everywhere) I’ll give her another thanks for tickling my synaptic reflexes just the right way so I could find the answer to the problem I was having with this.

In reply to: Mapping a subdomain to a subdomainOk well that was a relief. When you said “Go to the SUB site that you want to map” I started thinking about that for a while. Going over the various ways, over the last three days, that I’ve tried to do exactly what you are saying here.
You see, over the last three days I’ve thought to myself that there should be a “Domain Mapping” submenu when logged in as something other than the Network Admin. So, repeatedly, I have “admin” in the upper right hand corner (which btw I had changed to wpadmin) and have scrolled down through all of the menus meticulously looking for ‘anything’ related to domain mapping. And I couldn’t find anything.
I repeated “Go to the SUB site that you want to map” in my head a couple more times and thought to myself, “ok well lets try just going to https://gottmilk.g0tt.info/ and clicking on the “login” link there.
Lo and behold wouldn’t you know there is a domain mapping link if you look at it from that direction? <sigh> … And after the fact I found out that you can get to it as well from the that aforementioned “Admin” area also. But there is an extra step. I have to click on “My Sites” in the upper left hand side and then click on “Dashboard” for the site in question. <can I have another sigh here?> ??
Thank you Mrs. Andrea_r . Today your WordPress Fu was strong.

In reply to: WordPress MU No Super Admin PanelOk so I’m trying all sorts of things now. Read over the instruction at wordpress-mu-domain-mapping installation and it tuned me into domain parking since I’m using cPanel.
So in addition to my other A-name solution I also tried to park https://gottmilk.igottcha.com and have it forward to https://gottmilk.g0tt.info. Now since that didn’t work I also tried to create the gottmilk subdomain in cPanel and then go to the Domain Mapping plugin configuration to “map” “Site ID” 2 and have the Primary domain for that be https://gottmilk.g0tt.info/
Ok, so well it made sense to me but now I’m getting an error that says “Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.” … Doesn’t take rocket science for me to figure that I’m hitting this thing too hard from too many directions and have simple gotten myself stuck.
Help ! ??

In reply to: WordPress MU No Super Admin PanelOk, I’ve debated with myself whether or not to start a new thread on this or to post this question here. I’m about 90% sure what I’m doing is related to the above but I definitely don’t want to be pounced on for hijacking a thread. Ok so here it goes:
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
I’ve been trying to follow the videos and the tutorials too but since things have been moved around from 3.0 to 3.1.1 I’m not quite sure what to do here.
I change the A record of the igottcha.com “gottmilk” subdomain to point to 174.120.139.90 and after a few hours https://gottmilk.igottcha.com/ seem to be resolving. However I’m getting a “webpage is not found” error when I go to https://gottmilk.igottcha.com/
I’m pretty sure it has something to do with my not being able to figure out how to configure the “Domain Mapping” area of the MU Domain Mapping plugin. In 3.1.1 there is now a “Search Domains” area that doesn’t show anything listed, and a “Site ID” field that isn’t in any of the tutorials that I’ve read so I can’t quite figure out what to put there.
I guessed at putting a “2” for the “Site ID” (it is the ID number in the URL when I hover over https://gottmilk.g0tt.info in the config area) and then I put the https://gottmilk.igottcha.com in the area below it with “primary domain” checked.
So I went with that but it didn’t improve anything. https://gottmilk.igottcha.com goes to a “no page can be found”. Got any pointers for me?

In reply to: Mapping a subdomain to a subdomainA note regarding my experimentation.
* When I put “2” for the “Site ID” and put gottmilk.igottcha.com in the area below it with “primary domain” checked, then neither https://gottmilk.g0tt.info nor https://gottmilk.igottcha.com resolve.
* However if I delete that entry then https://gottmilk.g0tt.info once again resolves in all it’s untapped glory ??

In reply to: Can’t assign author to post anymoreI came here looking for an answer to the same problem except I upgraded to WordPress 3.1. I didn’t like the uninstall reinstall option so I poked around wordpress again.
In hopes that this might help someone else I found a “Screen Options” menu in the upper right hand corner that must have gotten reset during the last upgrade. In any case it was a simple matter of putting a checkbox in the “show authors” area.
Take note however that you will need to select “Screen Options” when you are creating or editing a post because the options for that changes depending on where you are in the Admin area.
