Changing the permalinks back to default does fix the problem. How can I figure out whats wrong with the .htaccess file?

I tell a lie, I’ve just double checked and once the post is published, I can’t preview it any longer through the visual editor, it also directs to a 404…

I have been playing around with this again but can’t seem to get it to work. The permalinks are fine if its a main page (the 6 across the top navigation bar) but as soon as I move these into a parent page, it adds the parent page into the url

So, what I’m trying to say is we want it to be https://www.mywebsite/thepage
rather than https://www.mywebsite/parentpage/thepage

Is there any way to take out the parent page part on this theme?

I’m not sure the plugin above allows this?
