Just to confirm as well, the text applies but the image doesn’t when you click apply

    to add to this

When I view existing watermark it just shows blank image
When I create a new watermark it only allows me to select text watermark

Just to update, it still seems fine.

@jennipagano – I wonder if re-uploading jetpack over itself would help as well. Maybe the auto-update missed something?

I don’t think that was what the problem actually was, as it was as soon as I connected my WordPress acc to jetpack that was the problem, before that stage the plugin could actually be on, but it could be a useful way for you to debug to see if you are getting the same problem.

@drawmyface – I’ve not needed to do the downgrade as it is still working since.. just odd that it took me a few hours of it not working and then it suddenly starting to work again, and the internal server error not actually hitting the internal siteground logs

I had already spoken to the service provider – they were not actually getting any messages in the logs about the internal server error and found it all very strange.

It’s also odd that jetpack has worked fine on this site for a few years and now suddenly doesn’t work – something in your recent update causing issues?

oddly every time I deactivate jetpack and reactivate it I have to set it up again. Before I set it up, site is fine, post setting it up I get the internal server error.

However, to do what you asked above, I just activated jetpack and went through set up again… refreshed, cleared caches and all sorts… and ironically there is now no internal server error.

I wonder if there was something up with the Jetpack/Wordpress connection earlier as the internal server error happened after I connected my wordpress acc to jetpack.

I will see if I get the error again over the next few days but fingers crossed all is good.

Just to confirm it definitely issn’t an issue with another plugin, because I tested in troubleshooting mode turning all plugins off and then when I activate this one the read more links doubles on “posts” but not on “podcasts”

    Thread Starter Davidian

    (@the-odd-duck)

I have tested a few themes and it does not persist under those themes.

They all have “continue reading” rather than “read more” though.

What could the conflict be, and how do I resolve it?

Is there anything you could do to add a “share to discord” option for the failed ones?

today is the first time it has failed – great plugin and efforts by the way – just frustrating when it doesn’t work.

    Hi, thanks for the resposnse.

I will check the 25% thing, but that might be something I did a little while ago that was supposed to only apply to mobile screens, e.g. when there is a small mobile screen and an image is “in line” than reduce to 25% size

In regards to the addition to the functions.php, I could make it so it hits the max-width I want and use * for the height in that regard, right?

good shout in the plugin for thumbnails, will try that.

I will see about the read-more links. It looked like it was just generating the excerpt and post read more links on the frontpage for no apparent reason, so I will do as you say with the deactivation thing. Cheers

I moved from a VPS to Shared hosting because I didn’t have the time for the constant server maintenance and did notice a bit of a speed dip initially which is why I started looking into all the performance boosting plugins.

On the VPS everything was loading really quickly but there was a memory leak “somewhere” that occasionally caused problems, but I couldn’t locate it.

In regards to the performance boosting/checking things I have on my site I have

WP Super Cache (I had bad experience with W3 Total Cache before a year or two ago but it caused my site to go down and the support guys didn’t help.. it might be different now.. would you recomend the switch?)

    Autoptimize
    BJ Lazy Load
Remove Query Strings From Static Resources
    Speed Booster Pack
    WP Performance Score Booster

I do have Jetpack installed and Photon turned on too..

Everything was fine and getting better but my “scores” were still not the best.
Installing the “Speed Booster Pack” did improve my scores, but broke Jetpacks Related posts and the Nivo Slider on the front page (although o be fair I think I have decided I prefer my site without the slider now)

My speed was getting better and better, I got load times to 2-4 seconds

for some reason the load times have gone up to 7+ seconds now, but the scores are still “good”

I use GTMetrix for checking speeds presently.

I tell ya, I miss my VPS now lol. I just don’t have the time or linux knowledge to keep everything working properly.

I’m not even much of a web dev… this is a hobby/sideline thing.. I am an SQL/VbA programmer in my day job.. just want something simple now.

Whilst it is “free” one has to imagine the developer is working towards an end goal of providing a service to people.

Perhaps if he fixed this plugin and answered queries he might do better.

Imagine if you were given a free chocolate bar but it gave you a stomach upset.. whilst you might appreciate the free bit in the start, you’d want the chocolate sorted out right?

At the very least an acknowledgement from the person that made the chocolate

If the developer is too busy to provide support, then I don’t think the plugin should be active.

I’ve had to remove the slider, still cant get that annoying text off the pages.

I notice lots of unanswered queries in this forum.. is this plugin unsupported?

I’ve tried excluding scripts, the feature doesn’t work.

Looks like this plugin is not supported, or has poor support.

Shame, because it did improve my site, but now when I deactivate it makes my site twice as slow as it once was.

    Thread Starter Davidian

    (@the-odd-duck)

So the select scripts you don’t want to defer thing doesn’t work either

it just has pasted this line at the top of my page: jquery.nivo.slider.pack.js https://answers-in-reason.com/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/modules/photon/photon.js https://answers-in-reason.com/wp-content/themes/mantra/js/frontend.js

So I have removed those lines from the plugin, and they are still there.

The worst thing is, if I deactivate this plugin my site runs twice as slow as it did before I turned it on.

I feel like I am stuck with either having a broken front page or extremely slow site.

    Another bit of information

Even though I have turned your plugin on with Deffering as the previous plugin i was using didn’t seem to do the trick, I am still getting this notification from GTMetrix:

401.2KiB of JavaScript is parsed during initial page load. Defer parsing JavaScript to reduce blocking of page rendering.

    Thread Starter Davidian

    (@the-odd-duck)

Worked out the issue with the drop downs, if you turn the deffering in in the plugin, you can no longer use the drop downs in the options.
