Looking over the guide, which is very helpful. However, is there an answer to my question about php files in my uploads folder? Should they be there?

Will read this, thanks. One thing I immediately did was install a security plug-in and it does regular scans for malware, hack attempts, etc. From that scan I found the malicious files–it’s at this point that I need to know what to do with the files without disabling the site.

That makes sense, but I’ve done this before with other sites and never had that issue. Could that be just because of this site in particular, or is that something new when working with WordPress?

Sorry. I changed it back in frustration. I’ll try again and if it doesn’t work I’ll leave it to see what could be causing the problem.

When I change the settings in my Dashboard then copy the “sgwp” folder contents to the root folder, the old site still comes up when I type the URL.

Okay, well–I still can’t move this site over. I just tried it 5 minutes ago; I deactivated BOTH slider plugins and yet the old site still comes up under the url. Followed the directions on what to do to move (which I’ve done with other sites I’ve designed and had no problems) and still can’t get the new site to show up.

Oh, one other thing to mention. I get a long string of error messages every time I log out of my Dashboard/WP site.

That worked–thanks! I think the culprit was an incompatible plugin. However, I don’t know if that also caused the problem of moving the WP site to the root directory. I almost don’t want to try until maybe I contact tech support for my server? What would be the next best step?
