In reply to: Can’t add tags to postsThanks for sticking with me on this, Michael. I did repair my database tables. Surprisingly, only two had anything listed in the overhead column and it was very minor. Doing the repairs did not solve my problem.

In reply to: Can’t add tags to postsHow do I repair my database tables?

In reply to: Can’t add tags to postsI just got this message when re-activating Fast & Secure Contact Form:
WordPress database error: [MySQL client ran out of memory] SELECT option_value FROM wp_options WHERE option_name = '_transient_feed_0ff4b43bd116a9d8720d689c80e7dfd4' LIMIT 1
Does that tell you anything?

In reply to: Can’t add tags to postsArrrghh! I just spent an hour trying to isolate which plugin is causing the problem, but was unsuccessful. I started by turning off all plugins. No problem there. Then I added plugins one by one. If the problem started after adding a particular plugin, then I would go back and turn all of the other plugins off except the one that was causing the problem. But with all of the others off, there wasn’t a problem anymore.
So it seems the problem isn’t with any one particular plugin, but with the combination of plugins. This is very frustrating because it makes it hard to know how to troubleshoot.
What’s more, I really depend on all of these plugins and can’t just turn them off.

In reply to: Can’t add tags to postsYou were right – it’s one of my plugins. I disabled all plugins and now tags are working fine. I think there’s some kind of conflict between my plugins. If I run them individually, they seem to work fine but when they’re all installed together, I get weird problems like this. I’m going to list them in case you have any ideas. .

Yet Another Related Posts PluginOne thing I noticed is that the automatic plugin upgrade never works with Fast and Secure Contact Form. In fact, when that plugin is enabled automatic upgrade doesn’t work with any other plugin. It’s only when I disable that plugin that automatic upgrade works. (If this plugin is the problem, do you know of any that could replace it?)

In reply to: Why does automatic upgrade NEVER work for me?Hi Michael,
Thanks for your reply. Where would I find the PHP.ini file? I can’t see it in the folder with the rest of my WP files using my FTP program, so I’m assuming I don’t have access.
I tried your suggestion in #2, but that caused an “internal server error” when I attempted to load my blog afterwards.
I was able to add the command in WP-config.php without a problem, but I won’t be able to tell if it works until the next upgrade.

In reply to: Upgrading to 2.8.5Automatic upgrade has NEVER worked for me. Sigh.

In reply to: Why doesn’t automatic upgrade EVER work?Well, it stopped this time on “downloading update”. Nothing happened after that. I then tried it again, and it got stuck at the same place.
With previous versions, it got a bit further. But it never worked. One time it really screwed up my installation and I had to restore from a backup, and then re-install manually.
I really don’t know why this is happening. Could it have something to do with my host?

In reply to: [Plugin: Simple Tags] Simple tags for 2.7 worksHmmm. It causes errors on my 2.7 install. Perhaps I should try running it alone without any other plugins to see if it’s a conflict between ST and another plugin.

In reply to: [Plugin: Simple Tags] Simple tags for 2.7 worksNo, it doesn’t work with my 2.7 installation either.
Everything was working fine without it, but when I reactivated Simple Tags I started getting 500 Internal Server Errors after posting.
Are there any other tag plugins that work with 2.7 in the meantime?

In reply to: 403 access forbidden after 2.7 upgrade – please help!OK, I feel really, really dumb. Somehow when I copied over the new files I managed to miss the index.php in the main directory. That was the problem. Thanks anyways for your help!

In reply to: 403 access forbidden after 2.7 upgrade – please help! Thanks so much for your reply. I was able to login using the link you provided, but when I attempt to change to the default theme, I get a 403 error once again.
Where do I look in the error logs?

In reply to: 403 access forbidden after 2.7 upgrade – please help! Please, can anyone help me with this? My blog has been down for a few hours right now and I’d really love to get it back up.
I’ve called my host (1and1) twice and they are no help.

In reply to: 403 access forbidden after 2.7 upgrade – please help!Note: I have never had any permissions problems on my server, and I didn’t change any permissions before upgrading WordPress.
I did deactivate all plugins before upgrading, so that shouldn’t be the problem either.
Permissions on files are 644 and 755 on directories.
BTW, I found this code in my .htaccess file:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] </IfModule>
Does anyone know what it is?

In reply to: Is there a “featured posts” widget/plugin?Thanks. I did try a search, but for some reason didn’t get the same results you did. Perhaps my terms weren’t the same. Anyways, “Best Foot Forward” looks like the one I want.
