I’ve had the same problem updating pluging try many solutions but did not work, I impersonated a pluging called Responsive Lightbox and also is responsive, it Works fine !!
in fact it is easy to place the photos by media gallery and the result is it like NextGEN Gallery: Look the result in my case:
