  • It will be automatically replaced through the .htaccess file, you can test this by saving an image from your website and it will show the WebP or AVIF extension.

After a lot of testing, it seems that this problem is not related to the gallery (i use Lite; it has all functions I need). I used a different pixel measurement method and the gallery divides it exactly into 3 equal columns, so my first conclusion was incorrect.

I’ve changed my thumbnail settings to medium_large and now the quality is acceptable. The thumbnail size is now larger than it actually should be (768px instead of 438px). I think my situation is quite exceptional because of the watermark text. With normal images you won’t notice this.

Thank you for this very quick solution @kellyoswald! This is exactly what I wanted.

I’ve found the problem for the Imagick option!

In the Media Library I have spotted the Convert button and started to convert my images one by one (a lot of work). It turns out there were 2 corrupted images (even though they did work as normal in jpg and webp format) but after re-uploading everything goes well.

Since the Imagick option now works, the GD problem is actually no longer important to me because I prefer Imagick.

Some things that you could improve:
    – Add a timeout and skip the files that take too long to convert, and show them as failed (so the other files can be converted without any problems, and you can inspect the failed files later on)
    – Under the process bar I would like to see a line which file is currently being processed, something like ‘Converting: filename.jpg’ (now you can only see this in the log file)
    – The % images circle ‘Outputted to’ is not updating during processing, it would be nice if this is possible
    – The banner on the top could be a little nicer and more recognizable, like the plugin page

I think after some improvements this could become the most popular free WEBP and AVIF converter. Keep up the good work!
