In reply to: [BackWPup – WordPress Backup & Restore Plugin] too many backupsHi I forgot to say that though I use Comet Cache, it is currently switched off as I have been testing a new site.
I am afraid I have had to deactivate backwpup as it had killed my server (out of disk) and also my remote backup (out of space)!
Until I can figure out what is going on it will have to remain off… ??Forum: Plugins

In reply to: [WordPress MU Domain Mapping] Why the reluctance to fix issues and update?follow up…
it appears I have got it the wrong way round – I changed the site/settings siteurl and home back to the full, primary domain ones and changed the site/info Site Address (URL) to the domain I wanted instead and this worked – many of the image links are broken (as the original primary domainpath no longer works).
Am I getting this right?
If so I will need to back up the entire multisite and run search and replace on each site to change the urls for all links/media.The reason I am trying to do this is because I am using S2Member plugin and when it tries to redirect a user to the login page (www.domain.com/wp-login.php), it gets redirected to the root domain. S2Member say this is caused by an incompatibility with the MU domain mapping plugin. However even though the domain I am using no longer has any mappings, the login still gets remapped to the primary domain login. I wonder if by deactivating the plugin it will magically work. Only one way to find out I spose ??

In reply to: [WordPress MU Domain Mapping] Why the reluctance to fix issues and update?…if i deactivate the domain mapping plugin to test this, can I reactivate it without losing my existing mappings?

In reply to: [WordPress MU Domain Mapping] Why the reluctance to fix issues and update?I had absolutely no idea until I read this thread that the main wordpress multisite core now contained the functionality that was previously provided by the domain mapping plugin….
I have been happily using the same multisite for years and didn’t notice.
Wherever you look on the web (even as late as 2015) people say install the plugin to map domains – an example of web-latency I guess – I am like someone who still believes in a flat earth (or at least Newtonian mechanistic physics!)Now I just have to get it to work – I have deleted the plugin mapping for one site and changed the site/settings siteurl and home to the appropriate urls but the site has just disappeared off the web… I get redirected to the root site instead (which is what I might expect without any domain mapping)…
Do I have to disable the plugin before it works? Bit loath to do that as I risk breaking all my sites ??

In reply to: [NS Cloner - Site Copier] Fatal PHP errorSorry that didn’t work…
I just installed 3.0.5.6 and my wordpress went down as soon as I activated it. That was with NS Cloner Add-on: Content and Users 1.0.3.5.1 & NS Cloner Add-on: Search and Replace 1.0.4.1 installed and activated.
Deleted the ns cloner folder and everyhting was fine again. Switched off the add-ons and attempted to reinstall but got the fatal error: Cannot redeclare class kintParse when activating.
Deleted the plugin (via wordpress this time) and reinstalled again… working fine at the moment – haven’t yet reactivated the add-ons…Forum: Plugins

In reply to: [NS Cloner - Site Copier] Fatal PHP errorBTW follow-up…
I just reinstalled NS Cloner 3 (latest version) and cloned a site successfully. Within a few minutes my whole multisite became inaccessible. THe only way I could restore it was by going in on the command line and deleting the plugin folder. Immediately the multisite became available again. Now I know this is what happens it’s no big deal – I don’t use it that often anyway so no need to keep it continually installed ??
Works great when I need it!Forum: Plugins

In reply to: [Timely All-in-One Events Calendar] Data loss if I switch off multisite?…and if I deactivate the plugin network-wide, can I then reactivate it without losing data? even if I have switched to single site activation in-between…?
It’s all a mystery to me – waiting hopefully to be enlightened ??

In reply to: Child theme functions.php displayed after migrate…Ah – I have found the answer – in fact I have found two answers…
One is that I have upgraded from PHP 5.3 to 5.5 during the migration and php was being displayed as text where I and others had lazily used the <? tag instead of the <?php open tag. This is no longer supported.
Rather than go through all the code I switched it back on instead with the
short_open_tag=On
in my php.ini fileI was surprised to find this didn’t fix this particular problem (though it did fix the problem elsewhere) – but it got me looking and I realised that somehow the opening tag of the functions.php file looked like this:
<?php> – which hadn’t caused a problem with earlier php versions. When I removed the closing > all was now well…
