I turned it all off and just put a paypal button on our site for a day.

Then I deleted this add on and reinstalled it. (By the way, even though it said it would delete all settings, the settings were remembered when I reinstalled).

Now it seems to be working.

    Did you do anything?

    I am very curious.

I love this plugin, but I am very concerned about relying on it when I am not sure if there are updates in the future.

Do you plan on continuing to maintain and update this plugin?

    Anyways…

For now I appreciate this plugin. It made a way for me to use Braintree to accept credit card donations on a website that I manage.

    Blessings…

    I’m glad to hear it!

So… You are saying that this addon is still working with wordpress for you?

I ask because in my wordpress dashboard it says that the add on itself needs to be updated.

    Have you found a solution?

I think the add on is no longer working at all.

    Thanks for fixing that.

I am currently using a theme that does not need the Social Links Plugin (I switched themes).

But if I ever find a theme that does need that maybe I’ll give it a try again.

I did figure something out but it was a while ago. I think I used a different plugin entirely.

Sorry I cannot remember the details.

If I do I’ll try and come back and tell you.

    I did solve it.

I got rid of the HTTPS plugin and used a combination of your plugin, a plugin called iThemes Security, and a few settings changes.

I’m honestly not sure what role your plugin has played, but when I saw everything doing what I wanted it to do I stopped and left things as they are.

    ??

If your plugin had the functionality to designate some pages to force ssl and others to not (without forcing the search form to be non secured) it would be perfectly what I need.

In the meantime… At least for now the problem is solved.

Thanks for taking an interest. The HTTPS plugin hasn’t been updated in almost 2 years and it appears that the author is no longer interested. Probably got too popular and was too much work to do for free.

    Blessings to you!

I ignored all the other functionality of that ithemes security plugin. I have other plugins that I use for wordpress security.

We’ll see if I have any problems.

At the site if I right click on the search box and choose “inspect element” in chrome I can see that now the action is to the secure site. But when it actually opens up it is redirected back to the not secure site.

I think that is because I do not have my home page marked as “enable ssl” in the ithemes security plugin, so it is automatically being redirected to the non secure version.

So… Perfect. At least for my needs.

    ??

    I found a solution.

I deactivated the WordPress HTTPS plugin completely.

I installed a plugin called iThemes security.

I marked the little checkbox to enable SSL on the page I want secured.

I went into the general wordpress settings and added the s to the two links for home and wordpress.

I installed and activated a plugin called SSL Insecure Content Fixer. (Not sure how much this one did).

Result: Only the page I wanted is secured, all of the others automatically go to insecure, the search box remains and is functional.

    Voila. Problems solved.

    ??

P.S. the Homepage goes to non ssl just like I want it to, even though the settings say https.

    Thanks DesignsAndCode.

I thought about doing that, but the page my form submits to is the home page of the site and I don’t want the home page to be ssl at this point.

So far, turning off search completely has been the only thing that works, but then of course – no search! ??

Hello, thank you for your response.

It turns out that the https plugin that I am using is forcing the form to be insecure because I have a setting turned on to force all NONSSL pages to just use http.

The problem is, if I don’t force the pages that I don’t need secured to http, there is at least one page that won’t work.

And I cannot figure out a way to just force that page to http

    Maddening.

    the site is worldwideawakening.org/donate

the only solution I’ve found so far is to simply eliminate the search box.

I have to choose between having my search box in the nav bar OR having the one page work that won’t work if https.

So the problem is with the https plugin, yet I need it.

    Hey Dion,

Would you be willing to post an example of what the code would look like to do that?

This looks similar to what I just posted in this forum here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/problems-with-wordpress-search-form

The problem is, I like my search form on my page!

But until I can figure out a solution to this problem the search form remains insecured and Google Chrome users will see a little note on their padlock saying that there is an insecure form on the page.

Mine is a donation page, so who is going to make a donation if there is an insecure “form?”

I know that it is the search form, but the average user will just be concerned with the vague warning.

I’ve tried turning off the option to force the rest of the pages to http, but that leaves some pages rendering as https that won’t show the necessary content because that content is not https.

    Very frustrating.

If anybody finds a solution whereby this https plugin can work without causing problems with the search form I will be dancing for joy.

    ??

Would it be accurate to call this a “bug” in the https plugin?

    Hey Tara (and everybody).

Yes, I have sought help in those forums.

In the meantime, if anybody stops by this thread and knows a solution regardless of whether or not it involves this plugin I am interested to hear that solution.

I’ve learned a lot since posting this question.

I’m pretty sure the problem is not the theme, but the https plugin that I am using.

I had an option checked to force all sites that were NOT set to ssl to only use http (instead of https).

That was forcing the search form to use a url without the https and thus the warning from Google Chrome that some elements were insecure.

So I posted the question in the https plugin area.

Somehow I need to both force non ssl pages to http while letting that one item – the search form – use https.

Haven’t figured it out yet, but it doesn’t appear to be the theme.

    Hey Vilmos.

What I was getting at is that I don’t know what you mean by “user filter” so I cannot turn it off.
