Disabling WP Cerber custom login fixed it for me.

OK … Just wanted to know whether or not the ‘feature’ will do what I was expecting. Documentation would go a LONG way to solving this for me. I’ve posted over in the private ticket system but you still do not seem to understand my query.

I was using a custom login page with Cerber. I disabled Cerber and the password protected page started working. Turned Cerber back on, page not working again. Removed the custom login page in Cerber, page working. YMMV ??

To me it seems there is not much use for an obfuscated login URL unless it can remain relatively secure. I might just as well not use the feature as it is not without its own downsides. Yes, my email client is secure in its connection to my email server, but I do not control the entire path that emails may travel to me.

Security through obscurity. ??

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I can load an existing page, but can not edit it visually. I can not create a new Page, only a new Post.

When I open an existing page in Gutenberg I see this for example in Visual mode …

I’m sure things would be quite different if I were building a new web site from the ground up, but that will NOT be the case for my 50+ existing web sites. My clients will not pay me to recreate their sites because the core editor is not backwards compatible. They will be stuck at 4.9.9 until a viable solution becomes available.

Robswaimea : Adminimize worked great! Thanks for the suggestion.

Try dragging the text widget to the footter element first then open the text widget and edit it.

Appearance > Widgets > open and edit the footer

Appearance > Widgets > Drag and drop a Text Widget on one of the three Footers
