In reply to: Are ‘web robots’ testing my wordpress security?Ivovic….
Why has something changed in WordPress…. Quite simply because until I upgraded from version 2 to version 2.5.1, I got maybe one suspicious registration a month, if that, and upon upgrading I am suddenly and instantly swamped with them. That is why I believe something has changed in WordPress. (I hope you can get get your head around that!)
My blog is very boring, heraldry, no pictures of me or anything provocative to attract anyone other than those interested in the grentle science. Also the site has been around for six years and has been a WordPress blog for well over a year.
I am fully aware of auto-hacking but I have never been subjected to it on this site (or any others come to that). Interestingly enough, I still have two WordPress 2 blogs and neither of them is being hit by phoney registrations.
I will be installing a verification plugin but wanted to make the point that there appears to be something in the code of the newer version of WordPress which is attracting the undesirables like a magnet!
Thanks ‘void’, I had worked out what their intention might be….

In reply to: Are ‘web robots’ testing my wordpress security?I do have a compelling reason to allow regisrations from folk who are interested in the topics discussed on the blog.
Today I have have had over twenty bogus registrations and the problem is getting worse…
So I ask again;
Are other WordPress users experiancing similar overert registrations? If so, what has changed in WordPress to attract these idiots/robots?Forum: Installing WordPress

In reply to: WordPress 2.5 Upgrade errorI have the same problem but mine is complicated by the fact that I was unable to gain access to the admin area of my 2.3 installation so was not able to de-activate the plugins….. Is this now going to be a big problem?
The host server was attacked and corrupted and the hosting company took two weeks to clean up the files but it somehow left my blog screwed-up so that I could not login to admin. That is why I tried to ungrade without deactivating the plugin the only one of which was installed was Akismet….. I think!

In reply to: Hidden PostingsI cannot see a solution here for me, but thank you.
I have just started to put a ‘family of’ blog together. The idea is to have historic pages and posting viewable to all visitors, this will allow ‘lost’ relations to find us. However, only actual family members will be allowed to register and will be accorded at Author level so able to post. As these posts will mostly concern current family matters I do not want then viewable by the public at large, only by registered family members.
I realise that these ‘hidden’ posts could all be password controlled but that still puts the posting title on the screen along with a ‘enter password box’ which is all a bit messy. What I would like is for my registered (family) users to be able to see all the ‘hidden’ posts and comments as soon as they log-on.
There is a plug-in called ‘Post levels’ by Filipe Fortes which supposedly does this but it does not seem work with WP2.2 and/or my theme….

In reply to: Favorites IconI have a WordPress blog hosted on the root of; https://www.scotsheraldry.com with the favicon in the root directory which works fines in this is a WP2.1.3 installation.
I have a second wordpress blog Cloaked under the url; https://www.johngmaxwell.net which has an actual url of; https://www.scotsheraldry.com/maxwell/ with this blog’s own favicon in the …/maxwell/ directory which does not work under its cloaked url. This is a WP2.2 installation.
The two favicon are different and clearly indifferent locations. If I use the favicon location https://www.scotsheraldry/maxwell/favicon.ico for the cloaked site the icon shows but the site name comes up uncloaked as subdirectory of the main url. If I use the favicon location https://www.johngmaxell.net/favicon.ico the site name is correct but the icon does show…
Very confused…..!

The blog is at https://www.scotsheraldry.com/blog and the gallery is at https://www.scotsheraldry.com/Gallery I will move the blog to the root URL shortly and link to coppermine from the blog only.

In reply to: Can Pictures be posted in CommentsHi Whooami
Thank for the comeback. I spent a lot of time trying to find an easy solution for this. In the end I installed a Coppermine gallery alongside WordPress and found a theme for WordPress that had been ported for Coppermine. I tried to get the Coppermine Intergration plug-in to work, but it has been too long abandoned in previous versions and have resorted to the CoppermoneSC plug-in which works splendidly easily for myself. I hope my users will find it equally easy.
