In reply to: [Modal Window - create popup modal window] Call by javascriptGood.
I think it will add a lot to your plugin. You could add a ‘Javascript call’ item to the ‘Triggers’ dropdown, and show the JS call for the Dialog in the ‘Notice’ section.
Hope you upgrade soon.

In reply to: [Modal Window - create popup modal window] Call by javascriptMy goal is to be able to call up the Modal display of a Dialog using Javascript.
An example would be when Javascript determines that a required Form Input has not been filled out, or that a certain score on a test was not achieved. In other words I want to popup a Dialog at certain times that may not be expected by the user. I would have thought that you would have thought this to be a common usage. Think of the word ‘Popup’.
I have already implemented this by using the ‘Click’ Trigger option, and then hiding the link, and then using a Javascript .click() call to the hidden link and show the Dialog.
This approach works. But it is awkward, and the creation of the hidden link seems unnecessary. It hurts to do that.I have also tried another plugin, ‘Popup Builder’. Those folks gave me their Dialog’s Class Constructor, and the class .show() function. Thus I create a Dialog Object with jQuery(document).ready(function ($) {
and use the Object’s .show() function to call the Dialog. No hidden intermediate object is required.I hope this explains my Goal. You could help by showing me how to open one of your Dialogs using a button’s ‘onClick() function.

In reply to: [Modal Window - create popup modal window] Call by javascriptHi,
If you look at your plugin settings you will see ‘Popup Settings’. To the right you will see the ‘Triggers’ dropdown. I used ‘Click’.To repeat: I do not understand: “$(‘.wow-modal-id-1’).click();”.
Saying that the Plugin uses javascript … is obvious, and not really helpful.
What object is getting clicked on here?
It seems to me that you are saying that the Modal is the target of clicks since that’s what I think “$(‘.wow-modal-id-1’)” is.It would most helpful if you could add just 1 line of code, with a button, so that I could see how it all works.
Thanks,
TimTim

In reply to: [Modal Window - create popup modal window] Call by javascriptHi, and thanks for the fast response!
I get the Concept, but not the Implementation.
I assume that a Dialog [Wow-Modal-Windows id=1] already exists.
What is its Trigger setting?
Mainly, I can’t understand the button part. Please elaborate a bit.Assuming the Dialog is a class object: Another approach is to tell me: 1) the Class Constructor, and 2) the Class Function that opens the dialog.
Thanks,
TimHi,
just noticed that although the buttons were removed … the space where they were remains.
How do I get rid of it?Worked fine!
Many thanks.
timblaHi, Thanks.
Yes, I am still interested.
My post was only partially resolved. The second item:NEW QUESTION regarding Foo Owl Carousel:
How do I get rid of the 2 navigation buttons below the Carousel? And the big space below?
They are there even though ‘Paging Type’ is ‘None’.
You can see what I mean by going towards the bottom of the page in ‘https://blancke.org/spacious_free/carousels‘ .If possible, I would like to do it without adding script. eg by using CSS.
I tried the suggested Hash… function, but couldn’t make it work.
Also could we then remove the big space below the Carousel?
Thanks,

In reply to: Gutenberg … Mandatory?Hi Joy,
I guess that I will go with the 5.0 Upgrade, but use the Classic Editor Plugin (and Elementor). Probably the same for new installations. My concern was more for those who don’t know all that which you all have told me.
I predict confusion.Anyway, I’ll live.
Thanks.

In reply to: Gutenberg … Mandatory? Thanks, Joy
You are the first person who seems to understand my concern as a user.
I have seen a statement that Gutenberg would be active and not able to be disabled. Thus the Classic Editor must be loaded for traditional use. I hadn’t thought about the upgrade from 4.9 … it would seem to me that it would make sense to just continue with it active. But be able to switch easily to the classic editor… which should already be there.
Also, it must be evident that the Classic Editor must be downloaded by many users, just to be able to continue. Ugh!
My main concern is for the new installation of 5.0! It is unreasonable to expect that the average (unsophisticated) user would be able to start off using Gutenberg Blocks. Most people don’t need them. The want life to be simple.
Thus I would recommend that in all cases a clear choice is given at installation (or upgrade) that allows the user to select either one of the modes and then simply continue. It should not be necessary to download a plugin to continue. You should take care of that.
COMMENTS
1) Although it is nice to want to add a major capability, that should not be done at the expense of the old. One very great WP advantage is that it is easy to set up and start using.
2) Gutenberg, as is, is really hard to learn, and is not as nice as Elementor (Free). You should hold off until you have an intuitive editor. Probably one where one can simply drag optional blocks ANYWHERE on the page, and the rest of the page would readjust to the change. That would be a real contribution!
3) Gutenberg is not ready. Nor is the introduction process. Please hold off!
4) The introductory page should provide a single link to a well-thought-out Gutenberg Manual.
Sorry this is so wordy.

In reply to: Gutenberg … Mandatory?Thank you for your fast reply.
Yes, thank you for letting me know ‘That ship HAS sailed.’
I think it sailing into a storm that could be avoided.
How will a user who doesn’t want to use Gutenberg know to load that particular plugin (out of thousands). You could inform the user with a simple notice and link, and save a lot of frustration.
This is important. You could do it (if you actually wanted to).
This is not the WordPress that I know.

In reply to: Gutenberg … Mandatory? Thanks for your very fast reply.
I installed the plugin and it works.
I already knew what you said about major upgrades, but I generally like to allow the installation of the latest WP upgrade on all my sites because the upgrades offer advantages.Installing a Cancellation plug in is a hassle, and not at all obvious.
What you said is helpful, but what would be really helpful would be:
During the Upgrade just offer the choice, with a brief message about the implications. Thanks,

In reply to: twentytwelve mobile dropdown menuHi Ian,
Thanks for your replies.
I don’t understand what ‘Support everything in WordPress’ is. Does # mean ‘here’? Help?I discovered that some Themes (other that twentytwelve) handle drop-down menus OK. Twentyten and twentyeleven work on my IPad. So I went with twentyten which suits my CMS design concept.
I have an Android phone (Motorola Atrix) with 2 browsers. AT&T and Firefox.
AT&T works, but Firefox does not. I decided that I can live with this. However I would still like to understand your last reply.

In reply to: Remote MySQL DtabaseHi 2ninerniner2,
Thanks for your quick reply. I think that you are right, but I, as usual, am having trouble getting it done.
When I go to the 1&1 MySQL Admin screen I can see my database, and I also see the following statement:“Your MySQL databases are stored behind a firewall to protect your data. You can only access each one exclusively through your server. Direct access to your MySQL databases using a home PC (external ODBC connection) cannot be established.”
I don’t see any option provided there for ‘Remote’.So I went to phpMyAdmin, but I couldn’t find any ‘Remote’ option there, either.
I wonder if I have to do something in .htacess?
Any ideas? And again, thanks for your reply.
