    Hey there!

The fees charged by Stripe will be set based on the location of your Stripe account, and the home currency of that account.

@dermotmoconnor I am seeing several plugin-related problems on your site that could be causing things:

    1. It looks like you are attempting to run custom jQuery code, either on your theme, or in a plugin, but have not properly defined jQuery. Note that Tip Jar WP does not use jQuery, but that error could be causing javacript to totally fail. So to rule out other plugins causing that, you’ll need to deactivate all plugins except Tip Jar WP and re-test.

    2. Your SSL certificate is not valid, which 100% will cause many problems. reach out to your webhost to have them investigate that.

@dermotmoconnor Thanks for reaching out. We’d love to work with you on this and get it working for you, as there are many people using it every day without this issue!

A 500 error could mean a lot of things, but ultimately it means something is failing on the PHP side. We typically see this caused by 2 conflicting plugins causing a PHP error, which then gets returned to the form, but it could also be a Stripe connection issue on the server.

This issue will likely require some debugging like that, and may require you taking a look at your Stripe account’s error messages. It’s possible (as it was with the original poster) that some custom code could be causing a conflict.

If you would like to work with us on that deeper debugging, we are here to help! The fastest and most secure way for us to help you is to have you reach out to use via email at [email protected] – that allows us to discuss more sensitive details of your account privately.

Ah that makes sense! I will see what we can do to get support added for Elementor so it’s easy to set up there as well.

The shortcode itself only accepts a single parameter. That is the form ID. All of those granular controls are controlled by the User Interface itself, and not by the shortcode. (This is how we are able to get the same functionality for both the classic editor and for the Block Editor.)

In the meantime, you can do this:
    1. Add the shortcode to a Classic Editor on a post (not using elementor)
    2. Click to edit that shortcode using the button above the editor which says “Edit Tip Jar Shortcode”.
    3. Make your changes and update the post.
    4. Copy the shortcode that is in the post body.
    5. Paste it anywhere you want, including with an Elementor post, and it will retain all of your customizations.
    6. You can now delete the original post from Step 1.

    Hey there,

I just wanted to follow up with you here after we spoke on the WordPress Slack.

You had mentioned that some unique/bespoke features on your site were preventing this from properly working. It sounds like you were able to get your site back online though! If it sounds good to you, I am going to mark this ticket as resolved.

If you have any other questions for us about Tip Jar WP, please reach out with another ticket here on the WP support forums, or via email directly, and we’d love to help you!

Thanks so much for the review! We’re so glad to hear it is working well for you.

To answer your question about the one-time payments only, you actually can do that in the current version!

Where you’ll find the controls for that depends on whether you use the Classic Editor, or the new Block-Based Editor (aka Gutenberg).

If you’ve placed the Tip Jar onto your website using the Block-Based Editor, you should see the option right inside the editor when editing the page in question.

There will be a button above the recurring options that says “Disable recurring options”. It looks like this:
    https://tipjarwp.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/how-to-disable-recurring-options-in-tip-jar-wp.png

If you use the Classic Editor, and you’ve entered the Tip Jar as a shortcode, you should see a button above the body area that says “Edit Tip Jar Shortcode”. When you do, it will pop-up and you have the same controls as the screenshot above!

Definitely! That update removes the nonce checking for logged-out users, where nonces aren’t really helpful anyway.

As long as your caching is only applied if the user is logged out, this issue shouldn’t happen again!

We just pushed an update that should fix this for you. You should see it in your WordPress dashboard under “Updates”.

One other possibility is that you may not have an SSL certificate installed. Tip Jar WP requires a valid SSL certificate, in order to ensure connections to Stripe are properly secured.

I noticed you linked to your page (https://tuneriver.com) without using “https”, but used “http” only. This is what makes me wonder if that might be the case.

You’ll want to reach out to your webhost to confirm that they have installed your SSL certificate. Most webhosts do this for free now. Ask them about “LetsEncrypt” if they try to charge for you it.

Another side benefit of this is that Google appears to be ranking websites with SSL certificates higher than ones that do not. For reference:

Hey there, that is a strange one, but you might be right about caching! Do you do any caching on your website? If so, how have you set that up?

    (@tipjarwp)

Hey there! I’m so sorry to hear that happened to you! There are about 100 other websites using Tip Jar WP daily to process tips and donations successfully, so it looks like something unique happened in your case. I would love to help you get that resolved!

It sounds like your server may be running an old version of PHP, or perhaps WordPress, or maybe even both.

Tip Jar WP requires PHP 7.0 or later. If you are running an older version, this could happen.

I will be happy to work with you on resolving this in our support forum here on www.ads-software.com! Let’s get it working for you!

Do you know which version of PHP your server is using? If not, you can reach out to your Web Host and they can confirm that for you. Let me know!

    Hey there,

Apologies for the delay in response this week! That error message typically happens if you use a “live” credit card in “test” mode. Do you know if that might have been the case here? In order to do a test purchase, try using one of Stripe’s test credit cards here:

    https://stripe.com/docs/testing#cards

We’d love to have another chance at getting you set up!
