Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: More intelligble instructions pleaseThanks, now I begin to suspect that I am dwelling on the wrong territory. I am just using the ordinary WordPress.com blog service and don’t have any access to directories mentioned because I have not installed WordPress.
This is a bit confusing. While using WordPress.com I am linked to www.ads-software.com help pages that only seem to contain instructions for those who have installed WordPress.

Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: New Install IIS 5 Can't Login reauth loopI got the advice to start with reinstalling 3.2.1 (after backing upp the WordPress directory) before doing anything else. As I installed it upon 3.0.5 I was warned for installing an older version, because with 3.2 important changes were made (see https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/to-wp-team-321-buggy-please-make-the-former-version-available?replies=10#post-2345606).
So my first attempt will be to reinstall 3.2.1 when I have time. The reason to do it is that I was told that this version has been installed by hundreds of thousands of users without problems so it is is more likely that there was a defect in the installation package. If this is the case, the bug is perhaps in the packaging program of WP so that it sometimes generates damaged files.
Dear Jan,
No installation file backups done. So I try first to reinstall 3.2.1 considering your warning. Now I have to stop for today.
Many thanks for your kind helpfulness and have a good day!
The upgrade was from the version just before 3.2.1. and it worked fine. Would it not yet be simpler to just reinstall the former version? I would prefer that before seeking errors as I am afraid it may take much time.
How to to that? Do Can I rename the 3.2.1. directories into “-old” and when install is successful, delete them?
Jaan
Thank you Jan, for your kind attention.
Ok, I will try your suggestions.
Thank you.
1. I did exactly what you said under point 1, but this did not change the siutation, see https://tmdoctors.info/wordpress/wp-admin/
2. Why should I download 3.2.1 as it has been successfully installed (today, according to the install report) and immediately ceased functioning, so I have not done any changes to it? Would it not be better to install an older version? There was no problems or disturbances during the installation so I think the probabiilty is little that an installation accident is the issue, considering also that a number of other users have the same problem. Is it not more likely that there is some really serious bug in this release?
Thank You Jan,

1) Disabled all plugins
2) Switched to the TwentyTen themeAs it is impossible to access the site, I have not been able to do any of your suggested measures.
EXACTLY THIS HAPPENS: I open the url of our site: “https://tmdoctors.info/wordpress/wp-admin/”
This yields the following response:
Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving https://tmdoctors.info/wordpress/wp-admin/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. And so I am stuck.
I can access the WordPress directory at the server by FTP but I don’t know what files to change.
QUESTION: Can I just install an older version upon this one? Or must I delete certain files or folders f?rst in the WordPress directoy at our server.

In reply to: Admin Access ErrorThe same here. But even worse. Even the login page does not show, saying there is a “Server error” – but the server works normally. I think there is a serious bug in this verion.

In reply to: UPdated from 2.9.1 to 3.1.4 and can't get my dashboardCATASTROPHE – THE SITE IS TOTALLY INACCESSIBLE after installing the WP 3.1.4
After upgrading today (sept 19) I could not access the login page. When I wrote the URL for the login, I got the “Server error” message, although the server works. Today, before upgrading there was no problem in logging in. So the whole thing started immediately after updating. And the update progress report finished after sayinh “successfully updated”.
Moreover the website is no more shown at the internet:
https://tmdoctors.infoI checkd through my FTP program and found that all the directories and files seem to be there (under the wordpress directory as it should be). So I suppose this could be amended by replacing key files here. Or could I try to install an older version of wordpress anew? If so, from where can I get it?
