Actually lat/long does work. Using an address does not.

I’m already using Nominatum — I’m trying to move off of Google Maps altogether if I can.

Now that I’m looking a little more closely, the “Ontario” example on the helper page actually is showing Halifax, Nova Scotia! Here’s a screen cap…

Ontario is the only example on the helper page that tries to use an address instead of latitude/longitude.

I tried embedding the Halifax one first, because it’s the example that uses an address.

Makes sense. The sites that didn’t crash were the first that I updated today. Thanks for the quick fix.

Thanks, but I don’t think it is the WP version. I had three sites running 4.9.5 crash after the update; and another few sites running 4.9.5 NOT crash. Running on the same hardware, too.

As the author says, installing the previous version brings it all back. I resurrected three blogs in a couple of minutes by FTP-ing into the back ends.

I’m not sure where the errors would be — there was nothing in the mail logs that I could see. But since the server had reverted to “localhost” instead of our organization’s email server, that would be enough to break it. Our internal rules don’t allow for individual machines to run mail servers, it all has to go through the master hub.

Though it was interesting that users got a “success” message on their submissions, even though the outgoing mails vanished.

I have two multisite installations, one with site-wide constants and one with individual blog settings. Both failed.

It’s kind of erratic — some blogs have localhost, some have ‘mycorrect.email.host’. That might be an artifact of some older blogs that had a different setup. Anyway:

wp site list –field=url | xargs -n1 -I {} sh -c ‘wp –url={} option update smtp_host mycorrect.email.host –skip-themes’ seems to be working.

Thanks for pointing out the theme option. The odd thing was, nothing was appearing in the sidebar at all until I added my custom menu. When I put it in — two menus. When I deleted it — zero. But unchecking the box solved it, at least well enough for my use.

It also fails in a case like:

[email protected]

If you really want to nail it, something like these is the way to go: https://emailregex.com/

Is new user registration allowed?

Maybe check your database in the wp_options table, to be sure that the option_value is correct for the option_name fields siteurl and home.

Is this a new site? Have you recently updated any plugins or themes?

I’m getting the same message when testing against 5.6 — but why is it working at all in 5.x? Maybe this is a false positive?
