TY for a speedy response. Here is what happened. Hopefully, this feedback will be somewhat helpful. When I activated the plugin, I could see the tab Chipmatic Lite was added to the CF7 form tabs. There was a red colored API button with an X indicating it is not active.

Below the button is a string of characters similar to this: 0.9.40CF7:6.1.2WP5.7P7.2.56T29.3.32 – sent in 20 Days. NOTE: (after editing those characters, I discovered they are not any part of an API Key)

Below the first label “MailChimp API Key:” is a text box pre-populated with my Mailchimp API key; and to the right is a blue submit button “Connect and Fetch Your Mailing Lists”

When you click on the button, it does nothing. The only visual clue to anything about your plugin at this point, is the string below the red inactive Chipmatic API Key button, indicating that something will be sent in 20 days. I could have looked in the console to see what was happening at the time I was trying to submit the form, but didn’t think to check the console at that time. It seemed as though the button was deactivated.

After a scan of your code I could see that the “20 days” relates to the difference in the time of activation and some other event (see function mce_difer_dateact_date). Also, I discovered the characters in the string are not an API key, but I do understand how those characters were generated now. Likewise, I also noticed that my Mailchimp API key which had been pre-populated into your activation form field, was actually truncated. So, instead of the form sending my Mailchimp API key it was sending a partial key; which, of course, would not validate. However, there was no error or any indication to let the user know what had happened.

So, after going through the code and discovering what the issue was, I pasted in the complete Mailchimp API key, rather than the one that was pre-populated into your form field; and tried to submit it again. Alas, it worked with the correct API Key; and connected.

Now that the plugin is activated and connected, I will look at the options you have available to see if they will address what my purpose was for downloading the plugin. I am not a Mailchimp fan at all. However, because CF7 works great and I have to use Mailchimp on some projects, I need to get it to work with something more useful and WP-friendly, like CF7; and there are some specific MC shortcomings I am hopeful this plugin has addressed.

FYI, I will update my review/rating after I get a chance to check out the plugin further; now that I have access to it.

FWIW, the website you referenced is a test site. If this plugin works for me, I will use it on a different production site.

I have not checked on here for awhile … obviously. This response is more for those thinking of downloading the theme now; since you no doubt went to another theme.

First, I have no record of ever receiving an email from you; or from anyone expressing the same issues you are reporting. However, I do use the Akismet plugin and it does filter out comments it believes to be spam. So, if there was some reason it detected your email as spam, then I would never have seen it. In mid-to-late 2012 I started responding to support emails, with a message that was consistent with the instructions on the theme’s admin page. That message stated in part:

First of all, let me say thanks for downloading Wordsmith-Anvil. You have requested email support, which I discontinued in early 2012. I discontinued it for two reasons. First, many of the questions asked are the same and I simply do not have time to re-write the same answers over and over again. This is why I created the FAQs page, because it is a great starting point, which will answer many of the common questions. Second, it makes more sense for everyone who has downloads and uses Wordsmith-Anvil, if there is a public source of questions, answers and essentially a forum to get help regarding basic issues with the theme. That said, I cannot take the time to provide gratis help to customize the theme for each person who has downloaded the theme and desires to customize it for themselves or for their clients; especially for those who are charging someone else for the theme they acquired from me for free.

The contact form on my site is really there for those who are looking for paid support and other services and/or options. I receive thousands of emails each week and if you are receiving this email, it may be that it is weeks after you sent an email requesting support. That is another reason for using the online options mentioned above. So, all said, if you still have questions about an error, or some other issue, please take a look at the FAQs and the Support & Feedback Forum Page, to determine if your question has already been asked. Additionally, some users have also asked questions or commented here and here. So, check out these various links and then if you still have unanswered questions, please feel free to use post your question on the Support & Feedback Forum page. I do provide basic support for questions asked there.

As for this theme not being responsive, you are correct. I designed this theme well over two years ago. At that time, responsive themes were still on the horizon. In order to convert the theme to a responsive theme it would have required that I rewrite it from the ground up. I never did that. I thought about it. But, decided against it. There are still many great WordPress Plugins that will allow you to use a different theme for your Mobile site. These plugins usually user scripts that sniff out the user agent and switch between the mobile theme and the desktop theme, on the fly. I would recommend using a solution like this with this theme.

    RE Your comment:

    – child pages don’t appear under the respective parent pages when I hover my mouse over the parent tabs. More specifically, the child pages don’t appear at all once they’re made subordinate to another page. For this site I need a hierarchical structure.

Most likely you did not read the FAQs, which explain how to setup menus. The top navigation menu is hierarchical by design. The side menu is not. However, someone has asked this question on the theme’s forum & support page; and I provided a response on how to make it hierarchical.

    RE Your comment:

    – due to the nature of my site, I also don’t want comments appearing on posts at present, so I’ve unchecked them — but they still appear on the post with a line drawn through them???

Questions about removing comments from the templates was asked and responded to on the links posted above. I don’t want to keep adding the links into this reply, to keep it from appearing to be spammy. At any rate, this can be resolved by reading the related threads.

Additionally, links with lines through them was no doubt an issue you experienced viewing the website using the Google Chrome Browser. External links display that link. There is a workaround for that. However, it is a browser-specific issue.

For future users who experience issues, please read through the various resources for the theme and if your question has not already been asked, feel free to ask it on the Support & Forum Page. The link can be found above.

    Tom

Thx for letting me know you removed my links, Andrew. These are helpful links to the theme’s demo site. ??

You may benefit from reading the FAQs. You may also benefit from reading through the Support & Feedback Page.

    Tangosouthannorth …

From a quick look at your site, the UL tags for the left nav menu seem to indicate you may have edited the files, or very likely, never setup the Menus. You may benefit from [substitute link re-added]. There are also some other WordPress tutorial options on the theme’s demo site. You may also benefit from [substitute link re-added]. One of the things I also recommend is applying patches to the javascript files; which, has been addressed on the Feedback and Support page.

Based on the information provided I am going to speculate you may have some plugins installed on your server that are not installed on your local machine. Even if not, my first guess is that most likely you are experiencing a jquery conflict, or not all of the files were uploaded to your theme folder. I have made some upgrades to the theme since Version 2.2.1. However, I have been too busy to run it through the process to update the theme on the WordPress Repository. If the problem is related to a jquery conflict, then there are three javascript files that need to be edited. If you are comfortable with doing a little copy and paste you should be able to edit these without too much difficulty. Two of the files are native to the theme. The other file is a third-party javascript file. I will start with the latter. Look in the theme’s js directory (folder).

Locate the file: jquery.hoverflow.min.js and replace the code by doing a copy + paste of the code found here.

On line 8 of wssingle.js and line 40 of wsmain.js you need to change one line, as shown here.

I hope that helps. BTW, I do not check this forum all the time. So, I would recommend reading the FAQs and reviewing the Support & Feedback on the Wordsmith-Anvil Theme Demo site. You will find many answers to common questions and help on setting up the theme on those pages.

neddy49 … I’m not itsbarry, but you should be able to add it to either functions.php file. However, I believe the best practice would be to add it to the functions.php in your child theme.

    Christina

I sent you an email with some information that I believe will help you with your situation.

BTW, if you feel I have resolved your questions about the Wordsmith-Anvil theme, if you could mark this as Resolved, I would appreciate it.

    Best Regards
    Tom

    Christina …

It would seem then that the WP e-Commerce plugin is the culprit. I do not know how elaborate your shopping cart is planned to be. The Wordsmith-Anvil Theme does have some built in custom fields so that it could be used without a plugin for a basic shopping cart, using PayPal for payment processing. I had thought about making the custom fields easier to use for beginning or intermediate WordPress users. However, I did not get around to upgrading this theme in that direction. Depending upon your needs I might be able to customize this theme to meet your needs. Or if you would like, I can reply to the email you sent to me, with additional options you might want to consider.

    Tom

    Christina …

I would say that it would either be code you are adding to your pages, or code that is being generated by WP e-Commerce. It would seem odd they would add a div tag with an id of header or headerimg. However, I suppose they could. I am not that familiar with their plugin. What I can tell from your second photo is that for some reason (unrelated to the theme) one of the supplied header images is being added to the top of the post. If you did not add any html coding yourself, then I can only speculate it is something that WP e-Commerce is doing. On your third photo, it looks as though your description has one list item. If it is only supposed to have one list item, then it may be that there is no closing </ul> or </div> tags, or both.

I would try the WP e-Commerce support forum for more info about their code. However, from other posts I have seen here on www.ads-software.com, I am unsure if that will help either. Are you using the Free verion of WP e-Commerce or the paid version?

One thing you could try is to isolate the cause. If you deactivate WP e-Commerce, do the pages display the same? Or, do they display correctly?

    Tom

    Christina …

Based only on the photos you uploaded; and without looking at any of the code, it is difficult to say. However, on the second image it appears that your post, or category page contains a div tag with an id of header; which, would appear to be attempting to reload the header image. If that is what is happening then the id for that div needs to be changed to something else.

On the third image it appears there may be one or more tags that is/are not closed somewhere on the page. If you have more opening div tags than you have closing div tags, then you end up with a page that does not display very well. My guess, from looking at the images, is that this is probably the case.

    I hope that helps.

    Kevin …

to piggypack @curtismchale … commenting out the comments_template() is probably the easiet fix. You will find this line toward the bottom of page.php and single.php. If you do not want the comment form to be displayed on POSTS, then the file to edit is single.php. To disable display of comments on PAGES, the file to edit is page.php. In the event you upgrade this theme in the future, both of these pages will be replaced. So, you would need to open either single.php or page.php, enter two keystrokes // immediately before comments_template(). Then click Update File. That’s all there is to it. For this particular edit, this process would probably be considerably easier and quicker than creating a child theme. However, for more extensive edits creating a child theme might be better.

Hey Code28, rather than SPAM this forum and the www.ads-software.com site you should develop a theme for the repository.

    Theme Author tomsskylinedesign

    (@tomsskylinedesign)

Update … the newest version is available on the www.ads-software.com site. The developer preference is that you download the theme from the www.ads-software.com site. thx

    Theme Author tomsskylinedesign

    (@tomsskylinedesign)

Kevin … what is your purpose here? You have no valid issue. You must have an agenda … but, I am not sure what it is.

You infer it should have only taken a half hour for me to fix the theme and add all the new upgrades to the latest version. Well, if that’s all the time it should have taken, why didn’t you just fix it yourself … since you call yourself a “Web Developer”

Oh Whoops … you failed to mention that on here. That’s right. Let’s take an excerpt from your website, Kevin:

In addition, I have been designing and administrating websites for the last half a dozen years. I started out programming straight HTML, but for the last year and a half have been studying PHP and SQL in the pursuit of my Information Systems degree.

My programming environment of choice is PHP code combined with a MySQL backend, formatted using CSS. I also posses a solid working knowledge of WordPress and have developed a number of custom plugins, themes, and widgets for that framework.

So, if you have been developing custom WordPress themes, plugins and widgets, a question anyone would probably ask, is why would you bother to download my Free Theme, that an experienced web developer like yourself, could have built yourself? If you have developed a number of custom themes, plugins and widgets, then you should have been able to figure out what the real issue was. What would it have taken you, ten minutes?

So now I say “What is wrong with this picture?” Either you are not the WordPress Guru you proclaim to be on your website (considering you were trying to upload a theme to the uploads folder, there may be some merit in this speculation), OR, you wanted to download my free theme … to reverse-engineer it? so you could re-sell it to someone else and tell them it was yours? because you were trying to learn how to code themes and thought you could learn something from my code ?? Come on, be honest about something here.

So, if you are going to make these claims about your WordPress expertise and yet, you did not know how to fix this issue, we have to wonder what is your agenda for posting on here. After all, it has been four months since the last time I tried to provide support to you … and as you admit, you did not email me back. That’s your fault, not mine.

Since there was an issue and you did not know how to find out what it was, or how to fix it, you want to FLAME me. This is not how you build your WordPress Developer business Kevin.

My challenge to you is to write a theme and get it approved on the WordPress Repository. With your WordPress know-how and experience you should have it put together in a day and approved by next week, right? Plus you can gain some credibility, while getting a chance to give back to the WordPress community. You will meet a lot of awesome people. However, you may encounter a jerk or two along the way, most likely in your support forums. ??

For anyone reviewing this thread, the only unresolved issue is that someone got butt-hurt that I wasn’t as warm and fuzzy with them when they they told me my theme was screwed up. My advice is don’t be a jerk and you will get better results.

Anyone that has had any issues with the theme and wanted to get the issues resolved, the issues have been resolved. The theme is awesome.

    Tom

PS For everyone else, I know that right now www.ads-software.com has the wrong version available for download. They have version 1.6.8. I do not recommend installing that version. My recommendation is to either download the latest version 2.1, from the link I provided above, or I imagine within the next day or so, they will have the correct version available for download … and you can download it from here. Kevin, you dont need to bother trying to download and install the newest version. It sounds like it has been entirely too difficult on you; and I dont want you to have to waste any more time on this. I know I have wasted enough time on this thread myself. I will accept that in your mind your issue is not resolved.

When you posted on this forum a few days ago, you had not downloaded the latest version, which had been available on the Theme Demo Site since July. Granted, in June, there was an issue. The issue you complained of was resolved in the 1.6.8-beta version, back in July. The issue, however, was not with any of the functions you referenced. Nonetheless, I did track down what did cause those errors to appear and fixed what was causing it. I made the updated theme available for download on the theme demo site. However, I did not upload a new version to this Repository until yesterday, because, in addition to addressing that bug fix, I added several new options and cleaned up some code; plus, I have obligations to paying clients and have to accommodate them to pay my bills.

Now, you have indicated that …

Yes, it looks like the original issue is fixed…

yet, you still did not mark this issue as resolved. ??

In your above comment you continued by stating …

The uploaded file could not be moved to /public_html/wp-content/uploads/2011/10

I am a bit confused about that. My first question would be, why are you trying to put the theme in your uploads folder? That is not the folder where themes are located. You would want the theme to be in the themes folder; which, is in the wp-content folder. It would probably be eaier if you use the upload function from the themes page. It will automatically upload the archived zip file and install it for you. Or here is another option. I just did a quick Google search for how to upload a WordPress Theme and located a tutorial that I have no connection to. It was simply the first search query result. Nonetheless, it looks like a fairly straight forward WordPress Theme Installation tutorial on the Linux Penguin site. I hope that may help.

FWIW, once you get the theme installed I believe you will really like it. I have spent countless unpaid hours developing and debugging it. So, I would appreciate it, even if you have issues with me not showing you as much attention as you felt you deserved, at least mark this topic as resolved … because the errors are resolved. You may still believe I was disinterested, or did not care about your plight. That is fine. I can’t fix that. All I could fix was the theme; which I have done.

Thanks for downloading the theme and hopefully, you can get it setup and benefit from it. There are about 45 FAQs on the Theme Demo site to help with setup. If it really knocks your socks off, I would not be offended if you made a donation.
