This issue has been resolved by (re)activating the Nija Firewall plugin.

Thinks: there must be a log file which I can look at to explain the ‘HTTP error.’

I sent them the same material as quoted in my original message.

My ISP has whitelisted the IP’s of my friend and myself, but it makes no difference.

I originally thought the problem was to do with the memory quota for the site, but this has been investigated and is not the cause.

I used Custom Post Type to create Books and Films. Books have Authors, Publishers and ISBN numbers; Films have Actors, Directors etc. Now, when trying to create a new Book item, there is no dialogue box for the Author, Publisher or ISBN; and it is the same when editing an existing entry.

Toying with the settings seems to suggest that the extra elements are there but do not display.

This sounds like my problem. All the custom fields created for books and films have disappeared, and both existing and new entries behave like normal posts. How do I get them back?

Thanks for the update. Although the main screen was still blank, the login screen worked and I was able to update the plugin. After a now-standard message appeared:-
“You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘TYPE=MyISAM’ at line 9 on line: 1471”
the plugin is now updated.

The next step is to confgure the firewall. Accepting the default Apache + CGI/Fast CGI and php.ini, here goes…
