“This webpage is not available
The server at your_site can’t be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website’s name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.”
This requires FTP, which I cannot do until I am back home in January. I cannot remember the details. Or is there a way to run the script without FTP, as the administrator?

In reply to: all-in-one-event-calendar errorThank you. I was asked to delete the calendar data, which I did; and the site seems to be working again.

In reply to: Username replacing title of messageJut try switching to the default 2014 theme.
Hum. The theme worked, sort of; but the design completely changed and would need a lot of work to restore something usable. I expect you wanted me to test the username problem, but I need to be absolutely sure of returning to the previous layout.
NB There are no previews of either theme.

In reply to: Username replacing title of messageTo answer the second question first, the forums are set up on my site (greenfriends.org.uk).
On the first question, I cannot see a preview of TwentyFourteen or any other theme when selecting Live Preview.

In reply to: Username replacing title of message1. I deactivated all the plugins, but this had no effect.
2. The site uses TwentyTen, which was the default theme at the time when it was set up.
3. I shall try using FTP to reset the plugins folder when I feel strong enough. Coincidentally, when using forums in bbPress, I “do not have permission” to reply to my own post(!!??). Could the problems be related?

In reply to: Better WP Security has shut my site downThe site is now up again. I am told that “When you changed the database table prefix it wasn’t written properly to the wp-config.php file. This can happen on hosts with limited memory which is probably what happened in this case. Putting in the correct prefix solved the problem.”

In reply to: Edit Page disappears in full viewThe phpmyadmin that I can access via Plesk does not appear to do the job. It is designed (limited?) to setting up credentials for the database user account.

In reply to: Edit Page disappears in full viewThen you need to explain yourself. Deactivating all plugins had no effect on the symptom described at the outset. Neither did resetting the plugins by FTP.
some very vampiric plugins
Which plugins fit this pejorative description?

In reply to: Edit Page disappears in full viewPhpmyadmin goes well beyond my level of expertise. Perhaps you would like to be given administrator access to the site for a short time? If so please contact me privately.

In reply to: Edit Page disappears in full viewI followed your instructions for resetting the plugins folder by FTP. What are you saying I should do?
