Yes, quite sure. The child theme is suppose to import these things. When I do use that customizer, it says I already have these items active. They just do not show up.
Another reason why I do not think my child is working properly is because I have made a minor change to the footer code in the appropriate footer.php file in my child directory and it’s structure. It does not take effect when I activate the child theme.
I gotta believe the two are connected, ie: child theme not properly working.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have tried various forms of the enqueue function before and have tried the code you suggested just now. I also commented out the Import statement in my style.css file so that your code would be the only thing to bring in my parent’s style sheet.
I keep getting the same results which is a black header, white background, and all my new pages I generated are no longer on my menu. There may be more subtle changes but that is what I see on the landing page (store page). This is very frustrating because I have some serious changes I want to make and I need my child to be active to make this happen.
I had to just change my theme back to storefront because it is LIVE and I am taking orders from it but I will work with any of you in any way to get this problem resolved. Sure is strange.

Jameskoster, Although I have never heard about the Customizer settings being reset to zero, I found this not to be the problem with my site. I restored my site to the parent – storefront. I then exported all the settings. I then activated my child theme and imported the settings again. I watched the import action and it seemed everything it imported was already installed, so the imoprt had no effect on my settings.
I now have my parent theme activated again so you can see all the differences between the child and the parent. Basically, when the child theme is activated, I lost my background image, background color, menu structure, and perhaps some more subtle changes to text, fonts that I may have made in the parent.
So if I am importing my parent theme, why are these items not being set correctly in the child? There has to be some simple solution. Thank-you for looking into this.
BTW, I used a plug-in to generate a child theme for me and I have the same results as if I did it by my self.

I will check into your suggestions and report. Thank-you so much for your quick response.

    alchymyth: You say:
“a child theme is treated like a new theme for which you will need to re-do the customization like header, background, menu, etc.”
This does not make sense. The child theme is loaded after the parent theme, so all the parent theme changes should take place and then any changes you want the child theme to do. That is what all the documentation says. That import statement in the style sheet or the enqueue statement in the php file, which ever method one uses, should load the parent stylesheet and then impose any changes to the style that the child stylesheet has. In my case, all I want to do is to load the parent stylesheet correctly and then start making some small changes. But I am getting a blank style with all the colors and background images gone.

Since this seems to be wordpress specific and not specific to the theme, I thought it would be best to place here. But what the heck, I will try posting there as well. Perhaps it will get some attention. Thanks for the suggestion.

Has this issue had a successful response? I am having the very same issue where my parent’s styling is not being inherited when the child is activated. I have tried the code suggested above to no avail. I have tried the import statement in the style.css file and that method doesnt help either. What else could possibly be going on?

In case anybody in support is listening…..
I also wanted to modify my footer. To test out the change, I modified the code in the appropriate footer.php file and it worked. So I copied the file and it’s structure to my child theme and activated it. Guess what, the change is no longer present.
I hope maybe that ads some insights into what may be happening with my child theme.
I am really losing a lot of development time. Can somebody please look into this problem?
    Thank-you

    Check out the Orbisius plugin

    Nobody can help with this?

I am also having the same problem. I installed the plugin, activated it, and it apparently made some changes but none of the changes I made in the parent theme are present any more. It does not appear that the parent’s theme settings have been imported.
I hope somebody resolves these issues soon or we will be forced to give bad reviews.
