    Thanks Denzel,

I obviously didn’t describe things clearly.

I have been using this function for months so yes, I always click on the cogwheel icon.

I noticed yesterday that this now does NOT bring up the link text box, only the url box and the little box to open in a new window.

I haven’t activated any new plug ins either, so I’m at a loss to understand what is happening.

Any further suggestions would be mostg welcome.

    Regards
    Sara

    Acknowledged…rookie oversight ??

Thank you for your reassurance and for persevering with this.

When I’m home later, I’ll put your workaround into practice, and look at the WP Core Trac issue too.

I’m assuming you’ll now close this thread, so if I notice further issues with hyperlinks, I’ll open a new thread – I trust that’s the correct ‘protocol’!

    Thanks again,

    Sara

The previous post links to the test article it seems.

I did the same as before – seriously.

I do apologise, this has just made me look like an idiot, and I’m not.

I don’t want to believe that it’s my computer as it’s quite new…

    Anyway, see how you go.

    Thanks

I’m losing the will to live here, NOTHING seems to be working – now it’s the link to my post!

I’ve created another test post, which has lots of detail in answer to your questions, plus snips of what I see when I’m trying to add a link.

It’s password-protected with ‘hyperlink’ again – all lower case this time!

Ignore the first paragraph, which is there because of the public visibility of the first few lines. I don’t know how else to get it to you.

Yes, sorry, thought you had done all you could with it.

Thanks for the guidance on the plugins – I may well have to go down that road, although it would be hard to draw meaningful conclusions for the reasons you state. It would also be rather cumbersome for me for several reasons.

I may start with just the last few plugins I installed as I’m sure the issue wasn’t there at the beginning.

Re: your final few questions – tonight, I will set up a better test page and work through them.

I will feed back to you, although I do appreciate there may be no further progress for now.

    Hi again,

Yes, the Travel With Kat link works now, this is the first one that dropped off as far as I know, i.e. I added the link then got told it wasn’t working, and had to re-do 3 times.

The 2nd page – each line SHOULD have a link – I followed the same procedure each time – as you say, not all lines contain links, but they should. I cannot see that I am doing anything different each time.

Everything is being done in visual mode.

Sorry, I can see it’s difficult to troubleshoot, the intermittent nature is indeed a pain.

    Thanks, Sara

    Yes, that’s exactly right.

Here is the post where I was called to ask me why there wasn’t a link – I remember re-doing it 3 times before it ‘stuck’. The link is in the 1st paragraph after the main intro and it’s for ‘Travel With Kat’.

I don’t have a published post where the link has gone (other than the above) as I wasn’t using many links till recently. Will my ‘test’ post be enough? Here’s the link:

    https://travelcontinuum.com/2016/07/24/test-post-for-hyperlink-issue/

    Password = hyperlink

This is the test I did earlier, where I followed the same principle, first few were without link text, then I did some with link text. The first few worked OK then it became ad hoc.

The post that has multiple links and is causing a big headache is in draft mode and has lots of content – if you do need it, let me know and I’ll add password protection to it and send the link.

    Thanks, Sara

    Thanks,

    Website link below.

Apologies, I am not at all tech savvy, please bear with me.

It’s difficult to define the issue.

I write a post, then go through at the end and insert the hyperlinks.
Sometimes they will all appear to have been applied (i.e. you can see they are in blue and underlined and the cursor turns to a hand pointer) BUT if I subsequently edit the post, some or all MAY get knocked off/disappear.

I have tried adding www at the start of the url just in case.
I’ve also tried adding the link without the link text then editing the link and adding the link text afterward.

I’ve just done a test where I just add link after link- sometimes it looks like it’s worked but then you update the post and it drops off.
At first, it looked like it didn’t like having link text added, but I just did one and it worked. No obvious logic to any of it ??

Worse of all for me is when I’ve added many links and they all seem to work. Then I get a call from a sponsor saying ‘why didn’t you link to me’ when I did. At the end of my tether!

    Thanks for the support!

    Regards

    Sara
