I was expecting to see tags in the side panel during post editing
but i have now discovered it beneath the post

I only deactivated then reactivated NextGen gallery and all is now back to normal!

OK, likely not an issue

The links wouldn’t open when I had a listing of all the posts
but do when I open oa particular post.

Does this make sense and is it expected behaviour? if neither I will send you 2 links:
one to the all posts page
and another to a particular post
