figured it out … the problem was that i changed the folder structure on the server and forgot to update httpd.conf with the correct paths, which basically made AllowOverride None enabled by default.

mod rewrite is on
no matter what i try, i have to return to /index.php/ structure… it’s really annoying..

well, i see now that my questions did not get answered. I was asking why there could be so much activity, and the answer was “this plugin is not for everyone”. I’ve been running wordpress sites for the last 10 years. but oh well, i guess this is not for me..

on the other hand, i’ve finally found the real culprit, and it’s jetpack. more specific: the process when jetpack shares your new post to all the social networks you set up, this way there’s a lot of activity happening right after the post is published, thus the reason site overloads for a while…

for now my solution will be turning off jetpack when i publish posts… then manually sharing them… or getting rid of jetpack in general..

so much for cranking up free support. disabling the plugin. should i proceed to rating it?

don’t see any reasons for my site to connect to something else other than google to get google to translate the page. why do i have to authenticate with plugin provider first?

thanks alot for this!! i spent maybe 2 days trying to figure out what is wrong with this plugin, then me, then several of my sites and hostings, and yes, all of them, apparently, use php as fast-cgi, and damnit….

but thanks for this post, even that is never received any continuation. if you’re still interested, i have applied it to the plugin and it works like a charm now!!

all you need to do is edit .htaccess as it explains in that link you posted, and use one of suggestions that has “remove” in it.. or just try each one. and insert the code they give in class-wp-json-server.php around 100th line, in function check_authentication(), before the second empty return;

OAuth, no matter how i tried, didn’t work for me either… but that is a different story,,.
