I think u have not created the child theme of zerif lite when u made ur project.So when the theme gets updated then there occurs the problem in ur theme.so please firstly create a child theme

please go to content-single.php inside templates-parts folder you could find the_content on line 22 over there,repalce that with the_excerpt.

If u want to make photo gallery page then firstly u have to make onepage named photo gallery in page.For this just go to page in cms then add new page ,named it as photo gallery.Then go to editor just click to add gallery button and add image on it and then update.
Then go to appearance>menu>add>photo gallerypage to menu and update.This will give u a gallery page in your site
