In reply to: Error messages when accessing plugins in dashboardThank you that did the trick – Now, I supposed I need to reinstall the calendar plug-in?
Will I have to repopulate the data as well?

In reply to: Can BuddyPress stand alone?Thank you for your quick response! Of the three scenarios, I think that the third is the main reason I’m wanting BP to stand alone. The BuddyPress themes seem to be more appropriate for what I want to do with the BP application, although it is true I was having a hard time with making my current theme compatible. The WP website and the BP website will address a similar audience, but from a different direction, and my original intent was that they be two separate sites.
Again, thank you.

In reply to: Can BuddyPress stand alone?Thank you. I think this is really a WordPress question:
Let me ask it a different way then. Can I install WordPress a second time on the same server, in order to use the BuddyPress themes, therefore making it a standalone installation?
If so, do I need to create a second database?
Thank you.

In reply to: Change link color in widgetsI’m having the same problem with my links in the widgets – the links in the navbar are and should be white, but this turns the links in the widgets (meta and blogroll) white as well.
Can they be set separately somewhere?
Thank you, Sherry

In reply to: Custom Header shows header in NavBar and at top of pageThat’s right, I don’t want the menu at the very top of the page. I only want the one right under the header.
I added code to the function.php file in order to use the custom menu. I’ll check and see if I also changed the header.php file.
Thank you. If I continue to have problems, I’ll post again in this thread, and will not close it yet.

In reply to: Custom Header shows header in NavBar and at top of pageCan you clarify? Do I need css to get rid of the top menu? I had to add css to get the custom menu, and I only wanted a menu on the navbar. However, on my Menus page, it says I can use two custom menus. I am only selecting one of them, and have tried both. I get better results in the navbar using Header Menu rhan Primary Navigation, but they both show the text menu at the top.
Thanks for responding, Sherry

In reply to: FTP questionI have the same problem, and my provider tells me I need to use FTPS (ssh), not (ssl) Is there a way for me to upload the theme myself through my own ftps program?

In reply to: Press This not understood or not workingWell, thank you for the response. However, as I said, in my perhaps overlong post, that’s exactly what I did, except I couldn’t drag and drop it, so I copied and pasted it. The point is, it doesn’t do anything when I click on it in my My Favorites.

In reply to: Press This not understood or not workingI don’t know what the policy is on bumping posts, but mine is now 10 hours old, and lost on the third page.
Surely someone can help me out with this problem.
This is the third question I’ve asked on this forum, and none have been answered.

In reply to: Used widgets not showingI’m seeing a pattern here. There are many perhaps very basic questions that are not being responded to. Others get short-shrift with caustic comments about reading the documentation.
It would make this forum more useful to newbies if people would take the time to respond courteously, being mindful that there is a lot of new information to digest and a new lingo to absorb. Searching for functions can be difficult it one doesn’t know the name of the function, and the documentation isn’t always clear or doesn’t always provide enough information for some of us.
That said, I’d like to close this topic, because I did finally either figure out what I was doing wrong, or found a theme that accepted all my widgets, or both. I’m not quite sure, but things are working now.
A word to the wise for other newbies – it is very easy to forget to “Save” after making a change.
