In reply to: Adult themed WP website – Need harsh criticism (NSFW)As someone that has been active in the lifestyle for “awhile”, it seems as if your building a blog of photo shoots and not really adding items suited for comments or “chatter”. I would push the site one way or the other. If your actually looking for feedback our writing needs to encourage feedback. I know many people (and groups) that would most likely enjoy a chattable blog like what you can have potential on making, many of these ppl currently use irc or local forums, to encourage these users would require location they would see others particapating in, not a site that projects static images or actions nor would they (imho) be looking at “fluff”, lifestylers tend to avoid tease photos as vinallia.

In reply to: Another reason to hate the DashboardAs mush as I kinda agree that I see no real reason for the dashboard, I look at it as a good place for new users to the blog/website ( I have a blog that is being setup for 30 or 40 some users.. a group of woodcutters that are not computer users per say)… if these ppl logged in and didn’t hit a dashboard page they would be lost… as sad as that sounds, it’s true.
I do what others suggested and go right to the page I’m wanting to hit via the address bar and not going into the dashboard.
What I’d like to see done is for the ability to make your own dashboard…

In reply to: Image Uploading with WP2.0I had the same problem I believe. to over come it you ensure the “uploads” dir is writable… then wp will create the “205” dir and it will need to be made writeable… finally (you guessed it) a “12” dir will be made and it needs to be writeable… or do it all yourself creating the dir’s and making them writeable yourself before the errors… now the key thing to remember is tomorrow will be 2006… and guess what?

In reply to: Can I Mirror My Blog On My Laptop?I just installed xampp on my Christmas present laptop and it is great! Nice and easy installation only a couple of blank stares at the machine… lol
TutorTo prove that I’m a newbie also…
1. I take it your using a windows machine… go into the directory via filemanager and rename the config.php.txt file, it does need to be a php extension.
2. It’s best to leave the comments alone… 2 months from now ya might look at the file and wonder what was what, comments are good.
3. If your doing a clean install you have a couple of choices to make. First is this going to act as your website? In otherwords if I went to your site will I see your blog as the homepage or is the blog going to be in a different area than the homepage? If wp is going to be the website then it would normlly go into the httpdocs directory… all the files in that main dir… and you would reach the blog by https://www.whateversite.com/index.php (or if no otherindex files are in the home dir you wouldn’t need to type the index.php part)… if the blog was going to be a additional part of your site and not the main homepage of the site then you would create a sub dir in the httpdocs dir called “wp” or “wordpress” or “blog” or whatever you want then place all the files into that dir you would then access the blog via https://www.whateversite.com/blog/index.php if you get my drift.
4. If your setting your site up using wp as the main site the themes that you either make or get by the great people around here will provide all the html type coding (normally in css) and your site will be complete.
Hope I helped a bit.. still trying to get a handle on this myself and I’ll be asking a real no brainer in just a second…

In reply to: Everything works but commentsHitting the submit button is taking you to:

and DID NOT work of me… I attempted to comment on the “Four kinds of people” chatter. Two things seem to make that error happen (at least for me…) First as stated before, the db needs to be made prior to running the install, secondly the user needs to be set also (in the db).
I’ve been fighting that error code all morning attempting to set up WP on my desktop computer so I can play with it and not my domain’s settings (which I have WP up and running on but just bare bones). (btw I want to set up coppermine if any tips can be offered I’d appreciate it)
My current (offline) setup is using EasyPHP 1.8 which placed a mysql/apache/php/phpmyadmin system up and finally got mysql to work properly… but it took getting the user name placed into mysql prior to running the install to have WP run without the error…
