    TablePress 1.9

    bbPress 4.5.14

Media Library Folders for WordPress 4.2.4

Yes, the thumbnail that concerns me is the one for Artistic Initials in Row 14. This is what I see:

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1wVwRMQFL2HR_7776TCF3dSxrNMveHKxq

When Row 14 is hovered, the thumbnail displays an opaque white rectangle surrounding a graysacle image. The *white* elements of the thumbnail should be *transparent* so that the row background color is revealed when hovered—as for other thumbnails on the same page: https://forums.typeheritage.com/status/

To solve this problem, I have tried an *exteme* method that usually works when all else fails:

?Convert the grayscale thumbnail image to RGB.
?Mask (select) the default opaque-white background.
?Fill it with an RGB color (i.e. Red).
?Export the result in either .png or .gif format with red marked as transparent.
?Sometimes, .png works well; other times, .gif works better.

The Good News. When I have tried this method, previews always look perfect.
The Bad News. Even though previews looked perfect, table thumbnails displayed a red rectangular background [UGH!].

Needless to say, these hideous thumbnail images have been replaced in both the table and the linked forum topics.

This issue may be a minor one that will not concern potential *patrons* of my related eCommerce site:
    https://bazaar.typeheritage.com/

Even so, it may diminish my overall credibility as a venue with adequate resources to effectively represent new *partners/vendors.*

I thank you once again for your extraordinary interest in my work, Anna

    Hi again Tobias,

After extensive experimentation, I have eliminated both TablePress and Media Library Folders as the problem. The images display exactly the same [wrong] way when placed in test topics and pages, even when uploaded with the usual WP Media interface.

In case you are still curious…
    https://forums.typeheritage.com/status/

If you hover Row No. 14* and compare the thumbnail (a new edit uploaded an hour or so ago) with others, you will see that the background is opaque instead of transparent. BTW I know many (many!) tricks and workarounds for creating transparency. I have tried all of them multiple times with multiple base files including the original tiff scan. I’m out of ideas!

*Thanks for the cool DataTables Counter Column add-on: https://tablepress.org/extensions/datatables-counter-column/ that automatically numbers rows!!!

Thank you SO much for your kind concern, Anna

P.S. I have cleared the caches of both browsers I use, Firefox and Chrome.

    Hi Tobias,

Thank you SO much for your prompt and most conscientious response!

Your fix for the width issue worked like a charm—the rest still stumps me. Now I’m thinking there may be a conflict with Media Library Folders for WordPress, which I started using recently to organize the thumbnail previews illustrated in tables.

Maybe I should stop bothering you and post a support topic there?

Thanks again for this WONDERFUL plugin!

Thank you so much for your prompt and conscientious support. I followed your instructions, and the solution worked perfectly. I LOVE this plugin!!!

I deleted the wp-cache-config.php file and the plugin itself. Then I installed a fresh copy of it.

    Now it works perfectly!

    Thanks again!!!

I figure if *anyone* knows of a plugin like this that works with EDD, it would be you! I’m grateful for your consideration, time and expertise.

For now, I’ve decided on a workaround that directs customers interested in certain products to forum topics about them at a related site.

I’ve marked this support thread “resolved.” If I discover a plugin that does what I prefer, I will report the info here for the benefit of other EDD users. And if someone on the EDD team develops one, please do the same.

    Thanks for your prompt response!

At this stage [site construction], a plugin that responds to change of the description would suffice nicely. Once launched, a product version update might be a newsletter-worthy item targeting existing customers, site-wide subscribers, etc. There are plenty of plugins integrated with mailchimp, etc. that tackle such large-scale marketing campaigns.

An example of what I need now: a main menu heading links to a page that queries and previews products in development. Each preview is linked to an EDD post with more info about it.

I need a plugin [ideally a shortcode] *automatically “bound to” the EDD post where it’s placed* to offer [eager and sometimes impatient!] customers the opportunity to follow progress on specific products that interest them. This communication keeps them “in the loop” with technical challenges that may face the developer in the process.

A sidebar widget likewise “automatically bound to” the adjacent EDD post would work almost as well—unless it requires manual setting of “visibility” options by vendors using the Front-End Submissions plugin.

The ideal solution would function like the bbPress-based “notify me of follow-up replies via email” checkbox option exemplified by this very support thread.

    Thanks again for your help!

P.S. I can easily imagine that a plugin performing this trick might be useful to *many* other EDD users too.

I finally found a *solution* to this problem, which I suspect was caused by too many saved revisions (hundreds!):

    1) Copy everything from the text view.
    2) Create a new page.
    3) Paste copied text into the text view of the new page.
    4) Save with the default title and slug.
    5) View the front-end display.
    6) Assuming it’s okay, delete the first page and empty the trash.
    7) Rename the new page and slug to the original ones (so search engine and your own links to it will still work!).

To prevent future problems of this nature, install two plugins that perform these tasks:

    a) Delete all existing revisions.
    b) Limit the number of revisions supported in the future (three is generally recommended).

You may be amazed by how much faster your site will behave!

    Hope this helps someone, Anna

It STILL works with WP 4.6.1.

Somehow(?) as suddenly as it began, this problem has apparently fixed itself. For the past few days, the “update” option is working as it should. Stranger Things have happened, huh? Go figure…

In case anyone tried to help me during this crazy time, thanks!

    Latest workaround:

    1) Edit text and images as desired.
    2) Copy HTML per “text view.”
    3) Refresh page.
    4) Click “Leave Page” when prompted.
    5) Wait for obsolete page to reload.
    6) Over-write “text view” with pasted HTML.
    7) Update (so far, this option is always available for awhile).
    8) Lather, rinse and repeat…

    Can anyone solve this mystery?

    Thanks again, Anna

Latest [time- and labor-intensive] workaround for saving current edits. This method still seriously interrupts my research train of thought:

    View published page.
Edit it in Visual Mode by opening “edit page” in a new [Firefox] tab.
    Switch to Text view.
    Copy HTML text.
    Close page.
View [still open] published page again.
Click “edit page” by right-clicking “open in new tab.”
Paste HTML text into text view.

At this point, the “update” option is always active (for awhile).
Save current edits by clicking “update.”
    Lather, rinse and repeat…

What is wrong? So many other pages at the same and a related site seem to work right, so I’m stumped!

P.S. As reported above: In the process of troubleshooting another problem, I temporarily disabled all plugins. This action did not affect the quirk described here.

    WordPress 4.6.1
    Easy Digital Downloads 2.2.6
    Suffusion 4.4.5 Child Theme

P.P.S. I tried this workaround: Copy the code view to a text file, trash the page, then create a new one from the text file.

The trash option is also intermittently disabled (at the same times as update button?), so this idea didn’t work.

The only thing that does work is: Close the page, reopen it, paste the text file, get back to work until it happens again; lather, rinse and repeat.

BTW a related forums site (WP 4.4.5, bbPress 2.5) seems to work okay.

Eeeeeek! This problem is getting on my nerves… Can you figure out what causes it—WP? Host? ISP?

Please help if you can—with profound gratitude, Anna

Thanks so much for your response. The solution sounds much more advanced than my experience.

Even so, I’ll experiment a bit–maybe I can figure it out and learn a new trick!

    Thanks again, Anna
