Thanks so much for trying to help me! I have a theory about a possible conflict with another plugin.

I’ll test it ASAP and report back to you (and to the developer of the suspected conflicting one).

Oh HOW I wish for an integrated plugin that could seamlessly handle ALL “tool-tip/hover” footnotes, acronyms and related images—including linked text terms!

Since my last post here, my host [bluehost.com] auto-updated my forum [bbPress] and eCommerce [EDD] sites to WP 4.3.1 and I independently installed EDD 2.4.7 at bazaar.typeheritage.com.

In the meantime, my EDD account does not include support topics, so I cannot access the ticket I initiated last month–I’m “out of the loop.” Can you supply a link to it?

Even more unfortunately, the EDD site does not *document* add-on extensions with such System Requirements as the range of WP and EDD versions supported. One must buy it, try it, and go from there…

Is there a possibility that this plugin can be fixed to work with the current combo?

Let me try again to explain…

The empty-cart info displays ONLY on the check-out page.

No customer with an empty cart will see it unless they *accidentally* click “check out.”

This defeats the purpose of encouraging them to purchase something that may interest them.

Is there a way to display it in the sidebar for a download product?

Now I apologize! After a very scary DNS issue, all is up and running again. I’m back at work building an EDD demo site.

What I want to do is change the label “Your cart is empty” and encourage patrons to browse the menu labeled “Similar and Compatible Fonts” BEFORE they accidentally(?) click the check-out link:

Whew–what a relief!

I re-installed EDD, and now the admin pages work again. Some of the styling errors disappeared too, and I could easily fix the rest. Thanks so much for rescuing me from this mess!

I’m afraid to edit the theme’s functions.php again. Please let me know if you decide to develop a plugin that displays products currently on sale.

In the meantime, I may experiment with your suggestion to flag them as a temporary EDD category or tag.

Since there has been no reply, I opened a ticket at the EDD site.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘}’ in …./wp-content/plugins/easy-digital-downloads/includes/cart/template.php on line 260.

Line 260 is only “}”!

Our posts “crossed in the mail”!

The EDD [download_discounts] shortcode is NOT about coupons. Coupons are about “rewards” for *existing* customers’ *future* purchases. Discounts are about a percentage or amount price reduction for ANY customer during a certain time period. These parameters are handled by the EDD Discount Code interface.

Two different plugins handle these two VERY different purchase incentives.

How do I enable WP_DEBUG?
What should I do with the information it may yield?

Accordion Menus. Besides reverting to default styling, some of the subordinate entries are listed under the wrong heading.

I am SURE that before editing the functions.php file, I viewed the stats and updated some plugins for this site. So the admin interface was working then.

Maybe one of the updates caused the problem? Maybe a conflict with the edited functions.php file?

I could remember/tell you more if I could access the plugin admin interface…

At this point, I’m grateful that this (demo) site is not yet “public.” One option is to ask the host (BlueHost) to restore it to the status before the problems began.

What do you advise?

WOW! I’m so impressed that you’re willing to take the time to help with my special problem.

I’m still confused about the [download_discounts] shortcode. According to the description, it should do exactly what I want to do–if it worked:

The discount codes I set up did not mention coupons–only percentages or amounts. As you can see from the result, I chose a percentage:

I would show you a screenshot of the EDD discount working page if I could… The problem is that after adding the new code to my theme’s functions.php, all admin panels are blank–even after re-installing the original theme file from scratch and rebooting!

Furthermore, the highly styled accordion menus have reverted to a default appearance.

I set up some discount codes and pasted the shortcode into the text editor. It didn’t work! I know this info should be in the main EDD support forum–just thought it might interest you for future reference.

Thanks SO much for your offer to help. Whew! This stuff is very hard for me…

Maybe one thing is not clear: In the example context (one of dozens), I want to display ONLY the captioned specimen.

In the WP media settings, specimen images are captioned and linked to the tabbed download page:

I have experimented with thumbnails and featured images. They do not work well for displaying *full-width* type specimens expected by my partners and their patrons. I understand that text-only excerpts are not appropriate for this purpose.

I need a way to *recycle* work already invested. What I have done so far is built around the above strategy and powered by the EDD Features Widget. This undeservedly obscure widget is bundled as “The B Side” of the EDD Download Info plugin:

I purchased the Widgets Pack, which covers listing the most recent downloads issue. I was disappointed that it is not possible to style the heading but found a workaround.

Then I discovered that when active, this widget causes all download pages to display as blank. When deactivated, the site returns to normal.

Is it compatible with my versions of WP (4.1.7) and EDD (2.4.2).
