In reply to: Help… New user role is Subscriber no-matter what I doActually the problem with setting default new user roles with Settings>General (in WordPress admin, in case someone reads this and wonder) is still there – it does not work. BUT “subscriber” role now has access to all parts of the site… So I am fine with every new user being assigned to subscriber role.
If I have time I will test if changing the default new user role at Settings>General in a clean WordPress installation with a simple theme actually works.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [WPFront User Role Editor] Does not workOk, so it turns out my host upgraded PHP to 8.1 …. Rolling it back to 7.4 fixed all issues with my site (I know 7.4 is the highest version that works with my theme). (And for anyone interested I also rolled back WordPress to 5.5.11).

In reply to: Help… New user role is Subscriber no-matter what I doAgain, thanks for answering. It means that one is not all alone when things crash, that matters a lot when one is under stress.

In reply to: Help… New user role is Subscriber no-matter what I doIt was on 8.1 … Actually, I should correct what I just said. I think it was the latest WordPress upgrade 6.4 that really caused the problems.
Rolling it back crashed the site. Disabling plugins and changing theme killed access to admin… This is where my stress levels red lined. After checking access permissions to wp-login.php and folders etc etc…and everything seemed fine and trying to reinstall wordpress from host – I noticed how my PHP version now was 8.1 …. Now I run 7.4 that I know is the version working.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Help… New user role is Subscriber no-matter what I doAfter a complete site crash and red line stress levels, I figured out that my host had upgraded my PHP version…. Rolling it back fixed everything.

In reply to: Help… New user role is Subscriber no-matter what I doThanks for your reply. What is not loading are options to set up subscriptions to posts that matches certain criteria. (user receives email notifications when a post is made that match certain criteria). (If user role is set to author (manually) they load)
But the problem – that WordPress does not control the roles assigned to new users (i.e. changing the role assigned to new rules under “Settings>New user default role” does Nothing) is a problem discussed all over the web. Sometimes some code is suggested, that does not work.
One plugin I tried was WPFront user role editor. I removed the subscriber role all together, thinking that new users would be assigned a higher tier status, but then the new users were assigned “no role”. I have tried other plugins that are to give e.g. subscribers author roles, no success.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Help… New user role is Subscriber no-matter what I doAnd this problem has been around for at least 10 years from what I can read. … It is sad..

In reply to: Help… New user role is Subscriber no-matter what I doThis changes my whole perception of WordPress. Its… …This should not happen.
The basic function assigning a role to a new user should not stop working.
…This basic functionality, it stops working, and shuts down the functionality of a site…..and it appears to be an impossible fix. Then…? You have to rely on luck to have basic functionality?Forum: Plugins

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Woocommerce plugin creates “too many redirects” errorSo now I have to edit a page that is not set up as the shop page, when I want to edit the shop page. …
Also, I never touched the pages – the problem manifested itself when I activated geolocation in woocommerce using the maxmind code (together with price based on country installed).
Everything worked. Next, I activated geolocation. Result – pages got switched, and now page A shows as the shop page when page B is set as the shop page. If page A is set as the shop page, it does not load due to too many redirects. Feels not so stable.. I guess, if it is not broke, don’t fix it.
If anyone has an explanation or a solution to this…please let me know..

In reply to: [Price Based on Country for WooCommerce] redirected too many timesIt seems like the reason is some bug in woocommerce, showing a completely different (non working) page as the shop page than the page that is set as shop page. It does not make any sense. And I do not understand why this issue manifested itself when activating geolocate, or what happened, since I did not touch the pages at all.

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Woocommerce plugin creates “too many redirects” errorWordpress and woocommerce looks like a bloated joke full of bugs. If I set the shop page to a page called “Packages and Pricing” it will work and load a different page as the shop page, a page called “Packages”. Note, this is another page, that is different from “Packages and pricing”.
If I set the shop page to “Packages”, the page will not load, instead I get the too many redirect error. (But that IS the page that loads if I set the shop page to “Packages and Pricing”).
Can anyone explain this?

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Woocommerce plugin creates “too many redirects” errorWoocommerce is more and more starting to look like a joke. I found threads on this topic on the web. They all end with no solution. And then somebody ends the thread with “Have not heard from you in a while, so I will close the thread”. What a joke…
