I just wanted to let you all know that the problem has been solved. I contacted the author of the theme (which I had been trying to avoid doing) who very kindly took the image and resized it for me. And it worked! I’d tried that too but I must have done something wrong when I uploaded the image. I thought I overwrote the existing file, but maybe not.

* Anyway, to anyone having this problem the answer is to physically resize your image.

And thank you to all those people who tried to help me.

I tried your advice and I’ve reloaded that page about a hundred times in the past few hours too. I’m guessing that you clicked my profile and saw my current index.html (a static website – aaargh!) The index.php is still the same, though. Somebody please click these two links and tell me I’m not imagining things.

Ooops – I forgot to mention that that was actually how I initially had it. I just changed it so many times trying to get it to work that it ended up without the ‘px.’ But I think if you look at it now you’ll see that I put it back and it’s still not working.

I’ve never had a problem sizing an image before so I can’t imagine what’s going on.

I even edited the original photo in photoshop to reduce its size and it still came out huge! So now I’m thinking that it must be something in the theme.

Yeah, but on that other post where I first asked I cut and pasted my css because I did that and it didn’t work. The image is there (I renamed it instead of changing the template) but the size won’t change.

Oh, sorry – I thought that this was just general css. Okay, I’m using the ‘Fresh’ theme and I found the information for the logo in the sidebar.php

I think I’m having the same problem. I asked in the post “How Do I Change The Logo” below why I couldn’t specify the size. Still wondering about that…

I love it! This theme looks hot.

Maybe I have to change the one I just uploaded to this one now, and I wasn’t even finished tweaking the other one yet.

Chin up soldier. I didn’t say that I didn’t like the theme at all. It’s definetely better than a lot of the other crap out there and I think it would make a good addition to the choices. As I said, to each their own.

I was just agreeing with lhk about having a different sense of aesthetics than what’s popular with so many people in the blogging community. People just don’t respect us for having an original opinion. Can’t we be friends again?

I agree with lhk – One hundred percent. I see people pimping ugly themes all the time and I can’t understand the appeal. Especially with these “commercial” looking things. I don’t want to look like I’m trying to rape my reader’s wallet. I want to connect with them and make them feel at home.

Those websites lhk listed are really nice. They have a good, clean, elegant, and sophisticated sense of aesthetics.

I’m also trying to create a list of permalinks in my archives, except that I don’t have an archives.php. I went to the index and tried that last trick and it worked, but it changed my front page as well – which I wanted to stay the same. Should I create an archives.php? How would I do that?

I chose bluehost.com because of their good reviews. Autoinstallation of wordpress was ridiculously simple. After that you’re on your own of course.

Never mind. I deleted wordpress and reinstalled it. Problem fixed. More or less. I have to put my theme back and the changes that I’d made but that wasn’t so difficult. Seems I was messing with things I shouldn’t have been because I was confused about the whole index thing.

I tried the advice given above and changing the index.html name to index.bak was the perfect solution.

This thread is old so I’m sure the original author doesn’t care anymore, but it was never really resolved so in case someone else gets it in a search here is my answer:

Don’t download anything.

1)Go to your bluehost Cpanel.
2)Click on the fantastico button.
3)Click on wordpress.
4)Click on autoinstall.
