In reply to: HTML links not working properlyOK I did that and my test worked with all the plugins activated. I don’t like the look of 2016, so switched back to 2011, and the test again appeared to work.
The real test will be tomorrow when I try to post new content, I guess.
I don’t know why switching themes may have jolted the system into working, but I have my fingers crossed. Thanks for your help.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: HTML links not working properlyAs noted above, deactivating all/reactivating one-by-one is exactly what I did in my own test. I tested after each reactivation and did not uncover the problem.
I don’t have any inactive plugins.
How do I switch to the default theme? I’m running 2011, with no problems of this type since 10/12, and no recent updates that I see on my dashboard.

In reply to: HTML links not working properlyI deactivated them all, went to the post (not the test), and successfully put in the remaining URLs. However, this is just a repeat of the test I ran, in which I added each back individually, testing each one, and there was no problem. But then, when I tried to amend the post (not the test copy), with all the plugins activated, it didn’t work.

In reply to: 4.5 Update Has Changed My LayoutGreat! I did take a number of my widgets off the home page so that it didn’t look so strange. Can easily add them back. Thanks for the update!

In reply to: 4.5 Update Has Changed My LayoutOh, OK. Well, in its latest update, wordpress has introduced a problem that I have not had in 3.5 years and now I need to hire someone to take care of it? I am good at problem-solving, but slow and short on time, so I don’t think I can fix this myself. Thanks for the advice not to wade in over my head!

In reply to: 4.5 Update Has Changed My LayoutNot having heard back from Eric, I tried to figure out how to establish a child theme myself, based on this WP support page: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Child_Themes
The first direction is “to create the child theme directory, which will be placed in wp-content/themes.” I could not find the right place to do this from my dashboard, so I typed in the URL vweisfeld.com/wp-content/themes and got a blank page. Nothing happened.
Where do I perform this first step? And will the second and third steps be easier to figure out?

In reply to: 4.5 Update Has Changed My LayoutEric, I am sure your advice is good, but I have no idea how to set up a child theme of TwentyEleven. When I say simple, it has to be *really* simple for me, in terms of the steps!

In reply to: 4.5 Update Has Changed My LayoutI have the same problem since updating to 4.5 this morning. I use the 2011 theme (not a “child” theme) and my sidebars on static pages appear below the content. On the pages created by posts, the sidebars are in the proper position. Site is vweisfeld.com
I’ve read the solution that worked for RJDinnan, but it doesn’t make sense to me. So, if you are able to send advice, KIS! Thanks so much. You all usually set me straight.
Many thanks!
https://www.vweisfeld.com Thanks!
As far as I can tell, yes, both Vault Press (and Akismet) installed and activated. When I go to my dashboard, I find them on the list of installed plugins and my choices are “deactivate,” which suggests they ARE activated and “edit.” It’s just worrisome for the site to ask me to protect my content, when I think I’ve done that. Now (Apr 8) I’m receiving messages to set up and register my VaultPress account. Have I bought redundant coverage?

In reply to: Website subscribers using Yahoo! mail get garbled contentSorry — now that you point that out, I realize this is a Jetpack problem.

In reply to: Updated WP, JetPack, and Themes this afternoon. Now site broken.I switched to the 2010 theme (most like my 2011), and the site will now come up. The Themes window said the 2011 theme was broken, so I deleted it and reinstalled it and now my site is up and has the correct theme.
I do need to go back and get my sidebar widgets on the right pages and put some photos in, but I think I’m on the way.
Thanks for the help. Now I know about GoDaddy’s FTP access and getting back the dashboard–both of which were essential to figuring out a fix.
