In reply to: Updated WP, JetPack, and Themes this afternoon. Now site broken.1) Using my server’s (GoDaddy’s) ftp site, I deactivated all my plugins, by following the instructions at “How to deactivate all plugins when not able to access the administrative menus?” This entailed changing the name of the plugin folder, going to the dashboard, then changing the name back. I have not reactivated any of the plugins yet.
2) On my server’s (GoDaddy’s) ftp site, I renamed ALL the theme directories (I confirmed I am using 2011 Theme, but all were recently updated). I wonder if I need to UPLOAD the renamed files from GoDaddy, but I cannot. According to the message I receive, my Firefox browser doesn’t support file uploading, and I need to get the Chrome browser. The changes to the plugins happened without “upload.”
Thus, I have tried James Huff’s two suggestions, to no avail. I do not get the error messages when I try to log in, just a blank screen. I do now have access to my dashboard.

In reply to: Updated WP, JetPack, and Themes this afternoon. Now site broken.Thank you for these suggestions.
I have no idea how or where to install phpMyAdmin, however. Nor have I ever used FTP or SFTP.I don’t know whether you can help someone at such a beginner level!
By “host control panels,” which might have phpMyAdmin pre-installed, does this mean GoDaddy?
Thanks for the Jetpack Upgrade. Widget visibility is working perfectly now! vweisfeld.com
I downloaded the new version of Jetpack released today, 2/11/15, and it did not resolve the problem with my sidebar widget visibility. Website is running version 4.1, 2011 Theme. vweisfeld.com

In reply to: Category ID including posts not in that categorySeems to work. Gave it a test. Thanks so much!

In reply to: Category ID including posts not in that categoryOK, under Setting>Permalinks, I see an “Optional” option, with a fill-in box for Categories.
So are you saying if I type in something (say “Reading”) in that box, then the URL https://www.vweisfeld.com/Reading would call up the reading posts?
That’s easy. No “/?p=” anywhere?
I’ll try it!

In reply to: Category ID including posts not in that categoryApologies. I don’t know how to answer your question re the template.
“Reading . . .” is a category, and I’ve made that category a main navigation heading in my menu structure. When I go to “posts>category>edit category” I find this notation: “The “slug” is the URL-friendly version of the name,” and the slug for this category is reading-2. I actually found this “url-friendly slug” somewhere else in the admin side, as well. So I thought I could use it as a way to steer people to ALL my “Reading . . .” posts.
Maybe what I’m trying to do (get a user directly to the category, as they can do if they first go to my website home) is not possible.
Thanks for the response. I will patiently wait the next version. (Was not sure it was a Jetpack problem, until I found this thread. In my puzzlement, thought it was a widget problem.)
I posted about this same problem some weeks ago, but received no response. My website (www.vweisfeld.com) is running WP 4.1, 2011 Theme, with Jetpack version 3.3.
The widget visibility controls do not work, but did in the past.
Some of the info above is too technical for me, but I did try going to Settings>Reading and turning off “infinite scrolling,” which did not solve the problem.
Will the new Jetpack update promised above fix this problem for the 2011 Theme? Coming soon?

In reply to: [Twenty Thirteen] Widget Visibility not working2011 Theme. Similarly, although I can set commands regarding which widget should show up on which page/category of my website, the widgets I want on certain pages do not show up there, and the ones I don’t want do. This problem appears related to a recent update to Jetpack. I reloaded Jetpack (twice) and obtained a partial fix (at least the visibility controls returned), but they do not work. In reply to: Posting to pages determined by CategoryIt took a couple of minutes to figure out what you were saying, but then it suddenly became clear and I made the fixes you suggested. Working perfectly now. Thank you so much!!

In reply to: The old "Problem Loading Page" problemI finally bit the bullet and deleted the photos from some of my older content, thus decreasing the page size considerably. It now works perfectly again. I hadn’t seen any WP advice that there is an upper limit on page size, but apparently, there is.
Thanks to everyone who’s tried to diagnose the problem.

In reply to: The old "Problem Loading Page" problemThank you, WPyogi. I’ve passed my question on to GoDaddy, but don’t expect help. I looked at all the discussions you suggested (some I’d seen already), appreciate your trouble.
Let me reiterate:
1) web posting and changes to other static pages are unaffected
2) the problem ONLY occurs on “The Morgue” static page
3) I have not made any custom modifications to WP. Using it straight “out of the e-box.”Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: The old "Problem Loading Page" problemYes, I have deactivated all my plug-ins. Is GoDaddy able to fix this for people? Do you have advice about what I should ask them to check for? I have been in contact with them, and they say there is no problem at their end. Wrong?

In reply to: The old "Problem Loading Page" problemThanks, Media X. I’ve tried disabling Jetpack and that isn’t the problem, and all my plugins are updated.
Re your question about “one HUGE page” versus Morgue category, I cannot answer that because I don’t understand the significance of the question. My home page is NOT a blog, and I have a separate blog page (titled “first draft”).
Is the Morgue file getting too big; is that the problem? It’s only 31K words.
If I did what you are hinting at and established a Morgue category using the Menu option, would it still appear on the site’s main navigation bar on the home page? what would the page look like?
