I was able to successfully install wordpress on my Linux Developer hosting account on Interland.
1. Downloaded wordpress distribution (zip format)
2. Unzipped locally
3. FTP’d wordpress directory to Interland account
4. created wp-config.php file (note had to use IP address of mysql server, not the hostname)
5. Went to /wordpress/wp-admin/install.php and was up and running
No issues other than using IP address of db server.
Note that I used the Linux Developer Hosting plan.
